Should I be able to here the fuel pump with ignition on guys?
I am having a devil of a job starting her after a couple of months.
I have checked the relay and fuse to the fuel pump.
I have installed a new alarm and immobiliser but that is working fine.
Does the immobiliser shut the fuel pump off?

When you turn the ignition on the lights will flash in sequence and the dial needles will flip to max and back then you should hear the fuel pump prime.

well the sequence all plays out as normal.
What exactly does the fuel pump priming sound like?......is it the very low pitched noise you here when the needles are flicking ?

After the lights and needles have finished doing their thing the fuel pump will prime, it's a whirring type noise.

and it will clearly sound like its coming from the rear of the car - where the pump is located.

Mine doesn't always kick in but it does 95% of the time. You will be able to meter it but i'm not sure how much power it draws.

Not sure if yours same

Here is sagaris, in boot floor access panel

Fuel pump relay fuse no.30
Relay R53 brown M0509

Three wires yellow green & black

Ensure you press the imobiliser on key fob to arm ignition, should also hear loud power steer pump, first as well as fuel pump

Perhaps the issue is the immobiliser not de-immobilising - no fuel and spark but engine cranks over. Can you confirm it actually fires, or does it just turn over and feel like its going to fire?

the situation so far.
The vehicle had a bump in the rear and I had forgotton the inertia switch which had triggered.
I have rearmed the switch ( under the passenger footwell cable tied to a strut ).
All to no avail, still the same.
The vehicle wants to fire when the key is first turned, but then it just turns over.
I have checked fuses and relays they are ok.
Can I bridge the relay?....I am sure I can then i can check if the fuel pump works....that would either tell me the relay even though new is at fault or the prob lays further down the line.

It is normally hard to hear the fuel pumps because they are inside the tank and the power steering pump also powers up at the same time (activated by the same relay ) . If you bypass the relay ( the brown one I think ) you should be able to hear the pumps running easily through the fuel filler . If you are getting no fuel pressure then one of the crimped hose connectors in the tank might have pushed off (not uncommon) replace them all with jubilee clips .

No oil pressure from sendor will inhibit ecu to allow start.

Check on cranking that you can see oil pressure building on the POD display

I know this thread was started by myself a long time ago, but wanted to report on the final outcome.
Basically the relay I purchased from a well known tvr parts supplier sent the wrong one !
After days of messing about I took the relay to a friend with the same car and discovered the issue that way.
Relay returned, new one recieved next day with apology, all is well.
