On this subject, I was pretty stunned when I visited the factory and discovered that the Griff and Chim don't have any side protection bars or roll bars as it wasn't a legal requirenment when they were first released. Whereas the Cerbera, Tuscan and Tamora have a built in roll cage, the Tamora having a huge roll bar built into the widscreen top and attached to the chassis. Strangely enough the Tasmin has side impact bars because it was sold in America....
Maybe it's a good idea to have the roll bars fitted to the Griff/Chim, I certainly wouldn't like to have a side impact or a roll in one.....
Any fatal accident is terrible, but when it's in a car you have owned or actually own, it brings it home a bit more....

i remember a few years back a pasenger in a Griff was killed when they got hit by an Astra , the only thing to stop the Astra going right through the griff was the transmision tunnel

Scary isn't it? It's ironic that my 20 year old Tasmin had side impact bars, which I only found when I was re-building it. Why they didn't fit them to cars built ten years later is beyond me. It's my belief that if it wasn't law now then they would still be building TVR's without any side protection. Basicly if you get hit in a Griff or Chim sideways then you have a big chance of serious injury.....so be careful. I always felt safest in the Cerb with that rollcage round me...

Was that IN Cambridge? Cos someone told me of a crash at RAMSEY – two killed in a TVR. the whole thing disintegrated it said in the paper apparently.

I think the crash was in Ramsey but the guy in the car and his son were from Cambridge and were TVRCC members.

How can they build a 150mph+ sports car without adequate protection from the sides?!?!?! If you just happended to be driving your Griff at 150 mph back from Le Mans, hit an undulation in the road, and then met the barrier, that would be curtains!! It's just worrying!!

I have one of the last Griffith 500's and I can confirm that there's no side protection in the doors whatsoever, as I've had the drivers door interior panel off trying to repatriate the wayward fag lighter on more than one occasion.
I can only express the deepest sympathy to the family concerned and wish everyone else driving one of these cars the best of luck, as it's not always what you do that can lead to such tragedy.

Come on, that's all part of the TVR thing...Risk is part of the pleasure you feel when you drive.
And anyway you can also get killed driving at 2mph in a merc...

Surely a Tomahawk wouldnt do that sort of damage? A Chopper or a Grifter maybe, but no Tomahawk...
