Kings have what looks like a burnt umber pearlescent tamora at the moment - no idea what the correct colour is and not sure if it is a demo or customer car - I was looking at BMWs.

I thought the car looked stunning but it was a definate love it or hate it colour - anyone seen any others?

I saw a shell painted in Chameleon orange, an my last factory visit. I was very unsure about the reflex colour on the Tamora shape. Maybe that's it...

Thanks Mickey!!

Mainly they love it from the reaction I've had so far and most people think it looks completely different in the flesh. Yellow- most people love or hate so I can take it if people don't like it. I saw the chameleon orange one being delivered to TMS on saturday and I wasn't really sure whether I liked it or not, but the car itself is the best all round car of ANY make I have ever driven. I am totally smitten and following benno's 996 on Sunday and not feeling "on the edge" convinced me that I am very lucky to own the best drivers car TVR have ever built. The looks/colour/arse might not be to everyones taste, but all I can say is go and have a drive and if you buy a car for it's grip and sheer enjoyment in driving then this is it. The motoring press are raving about it for that very reason. If it was crap I would tell you and flog the thing for another Cerbera, but it isn't.......

I've been wondering what they put on the registration document for these chameleon/reflex colours.

i.e
MAKE - TVR
MODEL - Tuscan
COLOUR - Well its a sort of purpley blue, but if you look at an angle its green.... um not really sure.

Flasher,

Is your colour Chromaflair based? i.e. 3 pack, aluminium lacquer, clear coat? Or is it a standard two pack paint?

That seems a bit mick to charge that sort of money if its a simple metallic yellow.

But then the amount that TVR charge for Chromaflair full stop is a crime.

Matt.

The yellow on your car is fantastic Flasher, unlike most yellows you can see on other cars...But then it's been several decades since Lamborghini started working their Yellow

Plotloss,

The cost of chromaflair paint has nothing to do with TVR.

The process that creates the particles that give the paint its effect is propriety, the company that produces the particles sets the price for them. Before deciding on a TVR I was also looking at Caterhams. For the 'hassle' of having to use a multipack paint the cost for painting was about £800. The cost of the paint, 2 litres to paint a Seven with a bit left over, from an independant supplier (including all thinners, hardeners/ activators, etc.) was about £870 (including VAT).

It's not cheap.

It's similar to Chameleon paint because it changes colour and has Gold/orange etc. in it. I assume it's chromaflair. James at TMS could tell you the full story but the only way they could get the paint to stick was to paint it in the "old fashioned" way, whatever that is. That's why when I asked, they refused to do another one and I ended up ordering the titanium one, before getting the original TMS demo.
There has been another painted in my colour but as far as I know you would have to pay the "chameleon" fee as it is such a ball-ache to paint!!

Shogoth,

£870 to paint a Westfield, so even if you triple it for say a Tamora and its less than 3 times the size of a Caterham surely and TVR are charging well over £3K for the Cascade colours and according to both the PPG and Chromaflair websites this is no more complex than normal chameleon.

Theres a way uplifted charge somewhere.

Matt.

I don't think I was very clear.

It was £800 labour + £870 materials, so £1670 all in. Which is not too far off the (£1800) option price for chameleon/reflex colours, and you'll need more materials for a TVR.

It's only some of the paints that are £3000. I would assume that this is because they need many coats and associated faffing on, i.e. in the time it takes to paint one car like this, they could have done 2/3 others.

I wouldn't refer to a Caterham as a Westfield either, it'll get you shot in some circles.

Quite true - I was recalling it from memory - and it let me down...again!
