Congratulations on realising a dream.

I went for a test drive in this pearlescent blue 2006 (56) plate on Friday and loved it.
My wife is insisting I get a sports car as she says after working hard for 25 years I deserve it. I sold my Elise 11 years ago when we got married and I'm in no mood to argue with her.

I loved the car. The leather seats rubbing on the leather trim making that lovely squeak, the exhaust note, the fact that you can sit at 30 in the villages in 5th then just fly through the revs to 7000 without doing anything with the gear shift, the fact that the speedo has barely moved and you're showing 100mph (closed roads of course), the rev counter goes anti-clockwise.

I actually think that I'll wait 2 or 3 years and go for a low mileage 4.7l model when they are between 40 and 45k from a dealer. But this one, at £41k at Lancaster in Cambridge is just beautiful.
It has blue and cream interior. Cream suede headliner, cream seats, blue trim everwhere else.

If you're in the market, I'd go for it.....

Oh, and that may sound like I work there or am on a commission, but I can assure you that isn't the case. IT consultancy is my field I'm afraid to admit.

Noooooooo! Don't wait just buy, lol.

Thank for the well wishes smile

Yes it's a public forum; I get that! I've never once asked for opinions. When I first announced I would be collecting my car, I was asked to post pics. I did not ask for critism did I? Now I wish I had just lurked rather than try to get involved. It's a very split community on here. I never known it anywhere else!

What annoys me is that people like yourself can't help but post something negative. It might be your opinion but it was not necessary or asked for.

What drives you to post something that would annoy or dampen a good thing? Why can't you stop yourself? Why can't you think to yourself "I don't like it but I don't have to say anything".

I don't like some colour cars and I hate some interior colour choices but I would never tell someone that for no other reason that to be horrid. Even if I were asked my opinion I would at least be diplomatic. This only seams to go out of the window on a forum.

You clearly wouldn't walk up to me at a meet and say it. Firstly because I'm sure in public you're much more like a normal person with a thought process and social understanding and secondly because you wouldn't know how I might take it and I'm sure you would hate to carry your nose home in your pocket.

I might be wrong though. So if you would like to discuss this in person, I would be very happy to do so. Would you like to? It's a simple yes or no? Lets not bother sniping on an open forum anymore. Lets do this in real life. Are you game or are you going to shrink behind you screeen?

I couldn't care less if I'm banned now. There are some good people on here who are happy to help and then there's people like yourself. You're clearly someone who feels the need to jump on the band wagon just so you can express lifes frustrations.

You're a troll!

So you basicly tell people what they want to hear? rolleyes

I would definitely tell you if I didn't like something about your car if I was to see it at a meet etc. As for jumping on the bandwagon, I would have posted the exact same sentiments even if no one else had, it just so happens that others have enough common sense to see that your numberplate is illegal.

I really could not care less about your number plate but this sort of statement is not acceptable. It's a borderline threat of violence. I suggest you stop this sort of thing.

This is supposed to be a forum for people who like cars to discuss them. Can we get back to that please?

John, you're welcome.

I don't understand the number plate comments.

Is it the number plate mounting bracket or the actual numbers?

I'd personally have a sticker number plate so the lines of the car aren't broken with something that wasn't designed by the car's design team.

As for the personalised plate, isn't that a personal choice and something that is meant to mean something to the owner?

C11NTS is my favourite, but, for some reason, it's not available. smile

Blimey.... This thread is going a bit south isn't it.....smile

FWIW I do think Mr Predator has a point regarding negative comments.....

As an example, some time ago a member on here posted up the spec of a car he has on ordersmile I read it with interest, and thought to myself, "what a lucky chap" being in a position to tell the factory exactly what you want....and being able to get a brand new AM

I then looked at the spec itself and thought, what a boring and unimaginative colour combo he's chosen....he can have anything he wants, and he's gone for the most mundane choices available....

Now would I make such negative comments on his thread...... Would I heck as likesmile

Sometimes the old saying of, if you have nothing nice to say then say nothing, is a good philosophy to follow...smile
I think its a fair point you make Quinny.....but everybody has raved about the OP's fantastic new car, and not a single negative comment has been made about it.....I think the truth is the OP knows he's made a mistake transfering his plate onto his Aston, where perhaps it might look better on an old XR3i........to the OP .......carm down dear....its only a forum smile

Sir,

Welcome to the forum first of all.

On a forum people give opinions, from what I read most are just saying 'lose the plate' and while I realise this isn't what you want to hear, you must realise that folk are entitled to their opinion and are not being threatening when they mention this. They all love the car, but the plate will (and has) split opinion.

However, when you respond you go way too far and I note that you get aggressive to the point of suggesting someone hangs themselves. Not what we expect here.

Feel free to partake, please come along to meets and share the Aston experience but leave the insults away from the forums or we'll have to remove you from the forums altogether. Just let it be water off a ducks back, I'm sure you know what I mean.

Chaps, I believe the OP has now realised not all like his plate.

Many thanks
Paul

Garlick,

I fully appreciate your response and I would like to apologise to all those decent members who have had to read all the off topic comments from myself and others.

Despite there obviously being a majority of good people on this site there is also clearly a number individuals who are not.

This is the only forum I have ever had an issue with which is such a shame. It shames piston heads and does the same for the marque.

I didn't think George would answer with a "yes" to my offer and now everyone else on here knows he lacks the stones to be able to back his mouth up. wink

I'm sorry Garlick but I'll not be continuing on Piston heads, as It's quite clear those very same people will conntinue to snipe whilst hiding away; it's all they are capable of.
I'll certainly not be attending any meets simply because I can and will cause some serious damage to those individuals. I don't think that's what anyone wants.

Good luck to all those who just want to enjoy their own pride and joy and are actually happy to see others doing the same thing.

Take care,
John

Castle gym in Windsor, this weekend. I can have a private lock in with no one else around. Sort it then if you're game?

Or you can find me here on the 22nd October, Nottingham? http://www.ukbff.co.uk/events.html

I used to moderate the UK section of s2ki.com (Honda S2000) believe me this lot on here are pussy cats. In fact the Honda section on here has ALOT of refuges from s2ki.com. The Aston section here is also pretty tame compared to places like The Lounge and General Gassing on PH.

There will ALWAYS be people you dislike or disagree with.
It would be very plain if we all agreed wink
Let it go over your head!
If it is a personal attack report it.

s2ki.com has a useful feature - an ignore button that removed that persons posts from a thread.

I think this thread has got a little off track. Everyone likes your car, of that there is no doubt. Some like the plate, some don't. Some were a little curt with their posts and I guess in hindsight could have been a little more reserved with their comments but don't let that put you off PistonHeads.

There is a wealth of information here in these forums and if you ever have any problems or issues with your car, I am sure the majority of posters here would be willing to help.

I thought you weren't continuing on Pistonheads?

So someone comes up to you in public and says lovely car, not sure about the plate, you're going to beat them up? The aggression is unnatural, poor show. The link to the bodybuilding thing... you think someone will come all the way there, try and find you, introduce themselves to you, tell you they don't like your plate and then you'll have a fight? Or they're cowards?

It's all rather absurd... Sorry, joined this thread late. Don't care about the plate, just the insults which do you no credit.

Blimey you go away for a week on business and return to find we now have a new "Cage fighting" punch section on the Aston Forum, I may enjoy the martial arts, but I didn't expect to directly combine it with Aston ownership biggrin

Come on guys can we start again - Predator they are all good chaps on here and I'm sure you are as well, so no need to get uptight about numbers plates... which will always be a personal choice!

The bottom line is everyone loves your car and it is stunner, congratulations, now can we have the full spec please to drool over, oh and peace man hippy

This whole thing doesn't do the site credit, let alone me. I've actually now asked for this thread to be locked. That's all I'm waiting for!

Lets not forget it was George who asked for a time and a plce! wink

Just so we are clear, I do actually agree with you. It's a terible state of affairs and one I've never witnessed before.

Yes I could have ignored their comments but to be fair they could have kept those particular comments to themselves. That's what I can't understand. At what point did any of them feel it would be a nice thing to say or productive? It's just long distance sniping that has now got out of hand. I do actually blame myslef for that, as I know I've more than bitten.

I just get wound up when someone is thoughtless and rude, without any cause. There's plenty of reasons in this world to be like that. Someone having a private plate is not one of them.

God this is going to sound childish but.......... They started it! LOL, just kidding wink

Anyway, We've never had an issue in the past and I'm sure I've read plenty of your posts and probably replied to a few. I hope you can see both sides.

Lets get this locked!

All the best,
John

Explicit threats of violence constitute common assault in British law.

This rather silly thread has decended to that level and it's simply wrong.

Can a moderator please close this thread now?
