Guys,

Quick question - turned the car on this morning, turned the lights on and noticed one of the LED strips has not come on. Any ideas? I'm hoping just a fuse but would like to know if anyone has experienced similar before I take a drive up to Halfords.

Cheers
Lewis

I should add - the headlamp itself comes on fine - just the LED strip that does not. Starting to think it's maybe not a fuse seeing as the manual says the fuse controls both!

Update - I've changed the fuse and it did nothing.

I'm a bit confused now as the main beam works fine, full beam works fine and the indicators work fine. So it's just the driving light strip.

Are these things a sealed unit? i.e. can I have Aston swap the strip bulbs out (as that appears to be the issue) or is it a full new headlight job?

Hi Lewis,

I am pretty sure AM will tell you it's a new unit needed - I am sure I've seen a thread on here talking about a small electronics unit that repairs them for a reasonable fee (search not working for me frown ), could just be a simple break on a board / solder point. I'll play around with the search again later.

Minedid the same. Its was something to do with the Printed circut Board.
I got mine repaired by a company in Manchester but had to send them the board as they are just an electronics company.
Here is the thread from earlier in the year. The companys details are half way down the page. Hope it helps and good luck.

Thanks guys. Going to see the main dealer in the morning so will make sure it's not something a lot easier than mentioned and if not i'll send it off to them.

May be a stupid question, but how did you diagnose the issue? i.e. How did you/dealer know it was specifically the PCB?

Thanks again
Lewis

Afternoon!

Unfortunately not - turns out it was the PCB as suggested. The problem is it's impossible to get into the board without braking the headlight. The lamp cover is clipped on however, on the vast majority of cars, it's also bonded on and unfortunately my Vantage is one of those cars!! So I can attempt to cut through the bond however if I get it wrong then I shatter the whole unit.

To add insult to injury I have been offered a replacement light for next to nothing, but it's for the wrong side! I have found a parts website that want £500 for a replacement so looks like that's the route I am going to go down.

Update here for anyone who might want to follow this in the future - http://www.pistonheads.com/xforums/topic.asp?h=0&a...

Basically, I have the PCB out to try and repair it but don't know where to start! The journey continues.....

Evening Guys

Apologies for piggy backing on other query about lights.Probabably silly question, but the sealed units on my 03 Vanquish condense up fairly easily. Is this re-pairable or as i fear, new lights required?
Also have been quoted £1683 + vat for chrome strip on top of boot from Aston specialists.Am thinking of taking off to get re-chromed,but apparantly not an easy job?
Both problems not major, but pissing me off.
any advice greatly appreciated

Vanquish lights - can access from rear by removing wheel arch liners, unclipping light mounting plate holding 2 light units, and clean glass. Throw in couple of silica sachets, will improve situation.

159 Euros!
Fair bit of information on AMOC about peoples experiences rechroming if memory serves me right.

I think the headlamp setup is similar to the DB7 where a pipe comes from the unit down and through the engine undershield. If these pipes are blocked, kinked, etc then the flow of warm air from the heaterbox will not be sucked through the headlamp unit?

AS for the boot trim, that is the correct retail but from experience I would talk to the chromers and get it re-chromed, if the base metal is still good. I believe the trims and bootlids were originally made to fit each other and therefore a new part may cause some fitting problems?
