Obviously you have never been on sixspeed.
Really? You find that obvious? Yet not evolution, hmm...

But how about the D2 forged thread, a magma red roadster with crome lipped titanium colured 20 inchers and everyone giving it the 'sweet ride bro'? That's what caught my eye yesterday.

I don't think I'm allowed to link here, so Al, feel free to remove. But please: http://www.6speedonline.com/forums/aston-martin/24...

In fairness 6speed did have some good info on changing the map reading candles for LEDs.

Indeed, i said there was a lot of sense on there, it's a good forum with lots of new ideas. But they're wheel-crazy!!

Yeti, in all fairness it is a vendor and most of the "sweet ride bros" were porsche, BMW drivers etc. Just as many comments were saying that it ruins the look of the AM and it created quite the debate.

Still working on the British humor part wink

I find both forums helpful in different ways, and it's great to see some of the 6Speeders on here and, recently vice versa.

Considering how alike the UK and US are, we do have a very varying sense of humour!

I discovered sixspeed recently and am glad I did - I have a thread on there today asking about my new DBS wheels and I probably got more info on there then I would have on here.

A lot of US car guys are big-wheel-obsessed but it's not a bad thing, I am a serial modder but it's rare to touch an Aston over here, frowned upon almost like they're the property of AM rather than the owner's car! I think it harks back to the importance of accurate restorations on the older models to maintain value and heritage, but if I had a DB5, I'd make it go faster, stop better and drive more reliably. Same if I had a 250 SWB as well! Probably for the best I don't...

I'd say it is quite a bad thing! Quickest way to ruin a car, and judging by that link you posted, it seems there are a lot of ruined ones over there.

Actually that said 'A lot of US car guys are wheel-obsessed but it's not a bad thing' first and I added the 'big' bit afterwards! Yes, giant wheels genrally ruin a car!

Those ones in the link are only 20", it's the basic design, the polished rim and the lowering so the top of the wheel is inside the arch that looks bad! The car must be undrivable on all but the smoothest roads.

I haven't commented on the thread, horses for courses and the guy is running a business. His wheels look GREAT on that Camaro behind! We are overly precious of our sacred Astons, even me smile

Evo magazine had an article about wheels a couple of months back. It's the issue with the landrover dc100 on the cover.

Basically says that "big" wheels screw up cars dynamics. But if you don't care about dynamics and just want to look different then rock on!

+1 look at the motorsport guys go down to smaller forged wheels.
Its all about the unsprung weight wink

I'd have to disagree again I'm afraid. I really really despise non OEM stuff like wheels added to cars. I get modifying the performance with aftermarket parts, but I just hate stupid unnecessary stuff like wheels or body kits etc. There is just no need, and 99.99% of the time, it's going to make the car worse. I can't imagine a V8V that came with 18" wheels as standard is going to improve by fitting stupid 20" drug dealer wheels and lowering it.

Anybody ever seen a V8V on the standard 18s? I don't believe I have.
For no other reason that extra 1/2" radius with 19s makes it possible to get a cleaning sponge to the inside of the rims beside the brake disks too.

I thought the V8V came with 18" wheels as standard, with the option being 19" 7 spoke alloys? I may well be wrong though. Either way, it wasn't exactly designed to run with 20" wheels whilst lowered by an inch or so.

I've seen a few V8Vs with the standard 18s, and I thought they looked fine -- not too small, though I do think the 19s look better. Personally, I don't understand the huge wheel thing (I'm in the US, BTW). When the V8V was first introduced, I went to one of the debut events at my local dealer and some engineers from AM were there. One of the questions I asked was whether the car handled better on the 18s and whether the 19s were more for looks than performance. He told me that the car was developed primarily for the 19s because they knew most would be sold with the 19s and, as a result, the 19s were the better choice. He also said that going bigger than 19s would hurt the ride/handling.

BTW, 18s were standard through MY08. 19s were standardized for MY09.
