I'd be interested in the breakdown of the bill - £250 for pads, say 1.5hrs labour with all the car health checks, you'll get a valet, plus VAT at 20%... I know it's a shedload of money but it's not THAT unreasonable!!

Backstreet garage would be charging what, £350-£375+ with no Aston specific checks, valet or the nice fuzzy feeling of being around other Astons and talking to people with clean hands and bewinged logos on their polo shirts!

I use a nearby BMW specialist for my BMW. He's been doing it for 30 years, tonnes of experience. He charges about 60quid to fit a set of pads. I'll probably take my Aston to him too. I'll happily pay for good engineering, deign, brand etc., but I get really really pissed off when companies charge over the odds because they think I'll just pay up. They don't seem to appreciate that I too have to work really hard to earn what I earn.

It takes no more that 30 mins to do a rear pads change - worst thing is the chance of chipping the caliper paint knocking the pins out.

At Nick Mee where the pads are being done, they have shown that the fronts are pretty gone too and about to hit the sensors (circa 75% currently and AM recommend replacing at 60%).

So they want £970 all in for the 4 pads and the work, is that reasonable?

That's £230 for rears, £260 for front, £80 for all sensors, £120 of vat and I guess £280 for labour.

I suppose you could go to a backstreet garage and save £75-100 on labour?

I'd stick with Nick Mee! But the self-service crowd are going to start screaming 'RIP-OFF, it can be done in 30 second by a retarded child for 50 pence' any second now wink

Shmee, can you ask Neal Garrard if they're taking Le Mans bookings yet?

Thanks smile

If you think the price is ok I'm happy to stick it, £100 for labour at a decent place is worth preventing anything going wrong. They are extraordinarily friendly too.

Honestly Tim, I have no idea. But if that's what they say, that's what it is, it seems a lot but it's an Aston and over half the cost is the pads then 20% on top for the VAT. Indies like this trade on their name and customer satisfaction, they aren't generally in the business of ripping people off, they wouldn't last 5 minutes with forums like this.

They're nice people, I wander in for a chat sometimes as it's a 5min drive from work!

Had a very pleasant chat with Neal, and yes they are taking bookings. Information is on the way soon but I imagine you'll be in before then!

Wow , not sure what dealers people are getting there prices from.

I am sure it isnt Amersham.

Rear pads £237.05 + vat
Wear indicators £19.67 each + vat

Front Pads £266.13 + vat
Wear Indicators £21.89 + vat

To fit these £50 per axle, so £100 + vat

This can be done while you wait.

Those are the exact prices I ended up paying so I'm happy either way, I didn't try calling Amersham this time around after getting a higher quote on my 2nd service than other places a few months ago frown .

For the bedding in procedure of my new pads I had to head out of town to somewhere where amongst other tests I would brake hard from 60mph using ABS. I will be completely honest I had no idea the car could stop so quickly - incredible!

Apart from a decidedly large hole in my pocket it's great to not have any error messages on screen again! Now just counting down until the new rear tyres and inevitably the clutch are needed...

Ironic since Pagid made the pads laugh

Very ironic, I had no idea who made them and was happy to follow the instructions as given to make sure it's all good from a warranty point of view.
