The non-black-non-grey-non-silver thread
Discussion
I was hoping to add to this thread, but after putting a deposit down yesterday on a Tungsten/Black DB9 it's not going to happen for a good while yet! It's hardly a hardship, but in an ideal world it would be nice if there were more choice of colours on the used AM market!
If I were a very wealthy person, speccing an Aston from new, mine would be all earth tones; greens, browns, etc. with red or tan interior. Its the whole point of a bespoke car isn't it, yet somewhere alomg the line "people" have got so wrapped up with the greyscale these last couple of decades we may as well be living in a black and white movie, on the roads at least.
There is also the Bond connotations which seems to be particularly ingrained with the British. Any pictures I have seen online of richly coloured Astons tend to be from the USA or the middle east.
Anyhow, looking forward to "slumming it" in my staggeringly beautiful grey DB9, but I'll be with those of you in this thread in spirit at least! Maybe next time in a few years....when an Appletree Green DBS becomes affordable.....

That's certainly true. It's hard to find a DB5 that's not silver birch these days! Funnily if you go back to the pre-DB5 cars, the era I'm more interested in you see more colour, indeed you'd be hard pushed to find a Feltham Aston in silver, same for DB4s. Then there's colour on the Virage/Vantage/V8/DB7 era cars but then wham once you get to the Gaydon era it's as if every Aston dealership told buyers of V8Vantages and DB9s to chose silver/grey "because of the re-sales sir." There is also the Bond connotations which seems to be particularly ingrained with the British. Any pictures I have seen online of richly coloured Astons tend to be from the USA or the middle east.
For those of you that don't frequent 6speedonline, I've got this on the way:
It's a 2007, manual, Ferrari Rosso Corsa red paint, Obsidian Black leather with red stitching.
And it'll be parked in the garage next to my other one, which is also a 2007 and manual, but has Mercury Silver paint and Phantom Grey leather with silver stiching:
(The second car in that pic is my buddy's Toro Red car.)

Rich,
Congrats! I'm curious -- they're wonderful, but why two '07 manual Coupes?
Thanks!!Congrats! I'm curious -- they're wonderful, but why two '07 manual Coupes?
The red one is mostly stock, so I can use it to develop parts and then showcase them, and the red is great for marketing my brand. The grey one is already so modified that it wouldn't work well for that. I'm also going to build it differently. The grey one is much more of a sports car... weight reduction (goal is to drop over 100 kg), stiffer suspension, alcantara and carbon fiber, etc. The red one is going to get glass switches, thick leather steering wheel, and keeping the suspension comfortable.
Long term, the engine in the grey one will get rebuilt with response in mind, and the red one will get forced induction. But those are a loooong way off!

Sounds good to me. Enjoy! Which one will be at LRP in June? The red one is mostly stock, so I can use it to develop parts and then showcase them, and the red is great for marketing my brand. The grey one will definitely be there. I should have my seating and suspension projects done by then and I'll want to test them out on the track and let people try them out.If my girlfriend can get the time off from work, she'll be bringing the red one. But we've got a lot going on this year already so her getting that much more time off is going to be difficult.
