The Proper Colour for an Aston thread - silver, greys, black

Don't quite understand your comment. A piano black finish always refers to wood. If there was no wood, then it wouldn't be called a piano black finish in the first place. You certainly can have a shiny black finish over metal, but then it is 'piano black'.
Many people would not be aware that the donor substrate to the piano black fascia is walnut - quite probably the same walnut used in natural wood finish. The piano black finish is spray applied - as opposed to stained - and so covers the entire grain and features of the wood rather than sinking into the grain and highlighting it. It gives it a 'plastic / metallic' feel.
It makes sense for AM to use the walnut as a substrate because it reduces the amount of items to stock, affords them a degree of scale economies on the purchasing side and - most importantly - affords them a dark substrate to begin the piano black process with. If, say, ash or pine or spruce or beech were used then many more coats of polish would be required.
As for the terminology, I was under the impression that a 'piano black finish' was an interchangeable phrase which was finish-specific, not substrate-specific.
Having owned a wood business for the last 22 years, I am obviously not too old to learn new things
I posted one photo of my car when I got it, but since there's a whole thread dedicated to the "boring" colours, thought I'd post some more. (First two outside my parents' house, the other in the underground car park of my flat so lighting is a bit rubbish)
Onyx black with anthracite wheels. Obsidian Black and ivory (I think) interior with Piano Black facia.
Yes, I know two tone interiors and black wheels aren't to everyone's taste, but I like 'em. Just waiting to get the 007 plates now to really annoy some of you

Nice! Has it got brown flecks in the paint or is it just the light?
Great interior, especially with only the seating having the dual colour.
Thanks! No, it's just a normal Onyx Black. Any brown flecks would be due to the light or reflections off something. Have just taken the infamous Fuse 22 out, wow!Great interior, especially with only the seating having the dual colour.
They are indeed George, we were told that on a factory visit last year, my son posed the question after noticing the differences on the line, then he checked a painted bumper section on a rack later round and no holes for wires were visible, just a recess in the bumper section for the reflectors to sit in for the quirky U.S. regs

They're to meet ridiculous American safety regs if I recall correctly

Just wondered what yank plod would do if you covered them up?
No idea, but it would be the first thing I did. Closely followed by removing the awful rear numberplate holder with the massive bulbous lumps at either side:Fortunetly, I never plan on living in, or even visiting the US again.
