Speaking of exhausts, does anyone know if the Quicksilver exhausts for V12V has a catalytic converter included (because driving without it is illegal in my country)?

If you get a quicksilver (or larini) silencer, it just replaces the back box, the catalysts stay in place at the front of the system

Agree with George...

This sounds much better than Larini. Larini seems to try to make the DBS sound like a Ferrari, while this makes the DBS sound like the Aston beast it is.

Slight misunderstanding of what's on offer there Nick...

QS/Larini only make aftermarket backboxes, a straight swap for the AM lump. They change the sound of the exhaust through less baffling, save about 10-12kg (less internals) and add around 5-8bhp at best die a very slightly increased flow regime. Larini is very high pitched and Italian in character, which the DBS is already copmpared to the DB9, the QS is deeper and comes in three noise levels depending on how little baffling it has inside.

Bamford Rose make a full system (in development but ALMOST done - and to be fitted to my car as the prototype) from the manifolds back, deleting 4 of the 6 cats and then feeding into EITHER an aftermarket box like a QS or into the standard AM backbox which allows you to have a manually operated switch - loud or quiet on demand and not related to revs. The difference is the BR system will release around 30-40bhp and torque to match (due to 4 x catalyst deletion). Rather than a dumb-iron backbox, the BR system is highly intricate and of course a much larger and more complicated system and that inevitably comes with a price compared to a plain backbox.

Do you want just noise, or noise with genuine useable power?

FYI my current set up is 4 x standard AM cats, 2 x aftermarket 200cpi catalysts and a Quicksilver SuperSports backbox, done by DMS. I tested 113dB at Goodwood and that was only at 4500rpm, cats make a huge difference! I am moving to the switchable system when my BR set-up is fitted, so my QS backbox will be for sale at half of retail. If you decide to go backbox-only and can wait a few weeks... let me know smile

See my last post. Quicksliver only make backboxes, the very last piece at the back of the car. The rest of the exhaust including your catalysts are not changed. This is why there are no significant power gains by changing backbox alone.

I have a vantage which was a 4.3 now a 4.7 thanks to BR I have their manifolds, cats and rear silencer which is the standard one with their by pass switch I am away till Friday but will make a quick video and post it on YouTube . You will get an idea of the difference that's the cats and manifolds make.

All the dozens of times I have seen your car Ben I have never heard it run, look forward to hearing the difference when switched loud/quiet to get an idea for mine!

I won't hear it on the way to Le Mans either, just see it disappearing in my rearview mirror... wink

That's the exact reason I dislike it. Astons should be loud, shouty and brutal with the noise, they shouldn't sing like an Italian car does.

The Quicksilver one does a good job of sounding how an Aston should - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FJoVrovWnZg

Lewis if you are watching me disappear in your rear view mirror you must be the only person i know who drives in reverse ! Well what ever floats your boat.
To be fair I doubt you will hear mine over yours she louder than a spitfire at full throttle.

It'll be a great drive down anyway smile

Hopefully mine will be the switchable system by then, though I may keep the QS on for the Le Mans trip. Can't think when I would put it onto quiet wink

Lewis. The car is a keeper and the thought of an extra 40bhp excites me. I will watch your progress with interest. I went on the BM website earlier and noted no system for the V12 yet so good on you for being the first to dip your toe. My last keeper was my Countach which had a Mike Pullen system, awesome. Sold her 10 years ago for £35k, gutted

So the above system does not change the original catalysts on the V12V, only change the exhaust bits, am I correct?

Correct, that is just the rear box. The manifolds, catalyst and centre section remain standard.

Larini do cats for the V8V:

... so perhaps the V12V system is stil in development.

So just by changing the rear box will drastically change the volume of the exhaust?
