Scared to put miles on an Aston ?

Bumped into an aquaintance yesterday - I was in my DD
He knew I had an Aston and asked if I drove it much, so I told him I do quite a few European trips
He seemed amazed becaue of 'how many miles it will put on the car'
I said that's what the car is built for and he replied 'but most people I've spoken to with cars like that are scared to put too many miles on them because of the depreciation'
I know that I don't do myself any favours costwise putting 10k miles a yr on it, but my thoughts are not so much the extra cost over say doing 2k miles a year (not just depreciation, but also tyres, fuel, servicing, potentially insurance & arguably condition) but more, why would I pay what is still a pretty costly exercise in running an Aston that does say 2k miles a year, to then hardly use it ? It seems a great shame but whilst to me it's odd that someone would do that, if I'm in the minority, I guess I'm the odd one !
Of course we all see that many of the cars advertised for sale have relatively low mileages for their age
So, what are people's views on here ? Do you limit mileage because of all the associated costs, do you wish you could do more miles in your P&J, are you limited by weather & time rather than cost, is it something you even think about ?

Tough one. All lot of varaiables. If your silly rich, who gives a fig. If its a keeper then who gives a fig. My V12V will be with me for years and to worry about an extra £10k or so if and when I sell it makes no sense so I will drive it whenever the weather is nice enough. I probably would not drive to London and back (normally catch train anyway) as long hauling on Motorways seems a waste, but I had to pick a son up from Oxford last week and I asked Sat Nav for a non motorway route and had a ton of fun on A roads. Actually like having it in garage for a few days if its pouring down, make the anticipation of getting back into her... well you know; another sex analogy 
I wouldn't use mine if I had a boring daily commute journey but I do use it whenever I can and it does something around 12,000 miles a year depending on my trips (hits the continent at least 5 or 6 times a year). Only if I have a random need to go up to Yorkshire and it's 400 miles round trip would I stop and think "wait, is it actually worth going in the Aston".
Last year I did 11,000 in the Aston and 7,000 in my daily driver, haha. But a new daily driver is inbound and I'm sure I'll do more in that.

I did 2000ish last year in the Aston, and 8000 in the daily driver. I do quite like keeping the mileage down on it, on 5900 now, don't want it to pass 10k!

I didn't buy it to look at it. That said it will not do a massive mileage due to my circumstances...kids

I've done very roughly about 10k miles per car per year in both the DD & Aston the last couple of years - to me, one of the reasons I chose the Aston over say a 911 GT3, is that even a long motorway drive is a great event in the Aston.
The main two reasons I've started to use my DD for the odd non-work related long distance journey are firstly a 10k mileage insurance limit and secondly, fuel costs have go to the point where I sometimes think do I really want to pay £150+ in fuel for a trip from mcr to london when 95% of the miles are on a long straight motorway. But that's partly because like you, I recently got a new DD......

Sadly my DD has the same drink problem as me and my Aston

I should have clarified that I meant literally just motorway and back; when I go up that way it's to stop literally at the side of the A1(M) so it's not hugely interesting!Around 10k for me last year too, lots of Euro trips which is what it's for, it's Grand Tourer! Will struggle this year for limited miles on my insurance, need to call and extend...
Other cars I drive when they're appropriate but the 911 only seems to be for when the Aston is away being fettled otherwise... Why bother, the Aston is better!
I need a more inspiring daily driver perhaps, but a 911 cabrio should be good enough. Fancy a Rangie but OH states a categoric NO!!

If it's a Sport or an Evoque I fully agree, they're a bit chavvy, plus they're everywhere (well the Evoque isn't just yet, but give it a year and it will be). A proper Range Rover is the way to go, or a classic one 
Or even a P38 would be great, I used to love my dad's P38 Autobiography Gassing Station | Aston Martin | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
