Scared to put miles on an Aston ?
Discussion
I spent approx £2,050 last year on fuel for the DB9.
During the same period I spent over £4,000 on red wine, though my usual spend is similar to that above.
During the very same period I spent £4,800 on pensions for my stepchildren and grandchild, with the Govt kindly adding £1,200 to this.
5 years ago I was spending over £2,500 on fags...

Some interesting and radically different opinions here! I got my DB9 middle of January with 37k on the clock. Now on 45k. Will porbably finish on around 35-40k a year in it. It will remain my DD and have to say thus far has been very reliable, but still early days!
On a side note I DO have a company fuel card which eases the pain of a potentially large fuel bill, but still have to fund the srvicing and tyres myself. Tim at Trinity will see me regulary no doubt!

Its an interesting topic this one....lots of interesting things to spend money on depending upon what you find interesting, no? Me and the OH just realised that our holiday last week was paid for by giving up ciggs 6 months ago...imagine what we could do if we gave up the old vino?
Last year I did 10k miles in my V12V, just because I couldn't leave it alone and when I bought it I decided it was a keeper - although there were moments stuck on a dark, rainy Friday night on the M6 that I did wonder if it was a good use of such a wonderful car.
So this year, for insurance reasons, I've elected to limit my miles to 7.5k and to do as many of them on the German derestricted autobahns and while on holiday. (Our DD here is a 10 yr old Lupo!).
Last week we bought the car over to Berlin and had the first chance to really open it up a little, to 225kph, and all legal, what a beast. You can knock Germany on some things but this isn't one of them. Out of interest I've also just put in this years trip into the route planner - Berlin to Southern Italy - and less than 3k miles return!! Bargain really when you consider all the good driving, wine and food on the way.
So I guess my 2 pence worth on miles, etc. is that I intend to enjoy it while I can - and I feel very lucky to be able to do so - after all there will be a day when I can't - and to try to use the V12V where it most enjoys to be...
Who was it that said something like "You might as well enjoy a relatively short life as you spend a long time dead"...?

Ha...
I came to the conclusion I didn't want to waste mileage on the Aston for boring work miles. Not much fun sitting in traffic. So I bought something that is entirely chalk and cheese compared to the Aston. It's a great wee car despite the colour but it was local, FSH, vgc and low miles...and 48mpg.
Fabia VRS...I'll go hang my head in shame

I went the other way and drive a V8 petrol Audi A8, its the relaxing car, with comfort seats, TV, adaptive cruise etc., an amazing set of technology, so when I specced the Vantage, it had to be the opposite, hard, sports suspension, lightweight seats, and BR exhaust on its way.
Two very different cars, but both V8 petrol engines, and both comfortably less than 20mpg
The Aston is for fun, the Audi is for chores, and I'm not attempting to limit my mileage in either

Jockman your red wine spend makes me wonder if we will make it back from the OBT in one piece!During the same period I spent over £4,000 on red wine, though my usual spend is similar to that above.

Mark - if my calculations are correct my spend equates to about 6,000 miles pa.
That is one hell of a mileage you are doing, probably a PH record
LOL had not thought of it that way, I think my worst month was Feb despite being a short month at just over 4500 miles. Had some pretty long trips. I live in Southampton and office is in Tamworth do that a couple of times a week.... at 5am though, so the roads are quite empty meaning a slightly more efficient number MPH is achievable than say 50mph.... Feb saw me visiting Manchester and Sellafield though so again some long hauls....That is one hell of a mileage you are doing, probably a PH record
I'm finding I get about 190miles out of a full tank. Best so far was 230 miles. Worst was the weekend I got the car at 130 miles on the full tank.

Mine is saying 300 miles on a full tank. You sure your tank hasn't collapsed ? I'm finding I get about 190miles out of a full tank. Best so far was 230 miles. Worst was the weekend I got the car at 130 miles on the full tank.

Am I missing something?
I did 260+ miles at full chat last week and still had 50 miles in the tank? Or did the salesman lie and I've not bought a V12V but a V6V?
260 miles, wow that is a motorway run for me. I would say that I have never put more than 70 litres in (light on) and that is not quite 16 gallons and I average 15MPG. 15x16 = 240 miles and that is mixed driving (town, dual carriageway & spirited). If it is full chat, I cant get better than 11 (around 170 miles). I did 260+ miles at full chat last week and still had 50 miles in the tank? Or did the salesman lie and I've not bought a V12V but a V6V?
Perhaps you have he long range tank option? OR possibly a V8V
