back in the late 80s Aston asked a specialist RS Williams to develop a 6.3 litre engine from them. Aston then decided to take this mod "in-house", aso RS Williams developed it further into the 7 litre conversion:

Yes, there are a few cars out there with RSW upgrades etc. This was back in the day were it was common to send vehicles back to Works Service and have custom/bespoke work carried out. - Serious money was spent on cars of this era and they all make for interesting reading.

7 litre? no thanks. Dont like the mod, myself. to get the 5.4 litre engine increased in size you have to

a) bore out the block - this will get you to the 6.3 litre size
b) bore out the bottom and fit new crank -- this will get you from 6.3 to 7

neither can be undone and there are no new parts available.

my xpack is 5.7litre after boring out the existing liners by 130 tho (from memory).

i've driven a few 7 litre astons. Most sounded wrong, rather truck-like sound. And they dont rev well. My 5.7 has lightened rods too,and is perfectly happy to well over 7k revs -- the soft rev limiter is 7k if i remember right.

some like the 7 for its bags of torque. Horses for courses.

Had to trawl back through last year's Le Mans photos to see if this was the car that was staying at the same site as us ...

Close but just 7.0 V.

BTW - the car at the far end with the yellow lips - that was Yeti's look for Le Mans 2011

Regardless, it's a lovely car.

The car in your picture, 7.0 V, is one of the 22 original 'Prince of Wales' Volantes and one of only two PoW cars to be fitted with a 'flip-up' tail as per standard Vantage Volante. It was later converted to automatic transmission and had its engine uprated to 7 litres. Quite a rare and special car.

This car used to be painted Gold! I was at RSW at the time and carried out the work for the then lady owner. It was prepared for Concours and she did very well with it.
