I have seen an old thread or two about this but wondered what the concensus of opinion is on this topic.

The dealer wants £100 per set, HWM have them for around £90 on eBay and I found these which look the same:

I was thinking about doing this too. McGard seem to be highly rated. I guess if you get the correct size there's no reason why you can't use aftermarket ones, unless somebody else knows something I don't?

Double check the hex nut size of these wheel nuts is the same as your car as AM supply two different size wheel nuts, 21mm and 22mm.
I am not sure which cars have which size, but my 07 V8 has 22mm.

Most McGard locking wheel are supplied with a 21mm hex key, as they are made to fit the ford transit amongst other vehicles that use the same wheel studs, and these have 21mm wheel nuts.

I called mcgard about this and they told me that they don't make a set with a 22mm key.
They will work fine, it's just annoying to have to use two different size sockets to remove the wheels if yours has 22mm wheel nuts.

Oli.

I have an 07 V8V too so I guess I have the 22mm ones.

I work from the old maxim...don't invest in a product if you don't fully understand it.

As I don't have the foggiest as to what these things are, and - moreover - the actual need for them, I shall be keeping my Scottish notes to myself smile

My wife's car had locking nuts that looked exactly like the photo in the link. When I had to change the tire (using the special tool), the nut actually broke and I couldn't get it off. Had to use the AM technique of injecting a sealant and inflating the tire to get it to a shop. Had them all swapped out for regular nuts.

I'm fairly sure if anyone wanted to, they could get locking wheel nuts off. Presumably there are only a certain number of combinations, and you will be able to buy the tool to remove them.

Waste of £100 imo.

+1 lick I'd also temper my comment by saying that the locking nuts might be a good idea if you park in dodgy areas; the nuts are supposed to be a theft deterrent and even a broken nut does that, much better in fact than a whole one (the keys aren't hard to come by). As with most security measures it really only stops the amateurs and barely slows down the pros.

I'd be much more worried about the proper jacking points not being used -- wheels can be replaced but a bent car is something I don't even want to think about eek

Hennessey's the way to go on on this one!

If locking nuts act as a deterrent to even only some people then so far as I can see that is £100 very well spent. Lets face it, the pros are going to get what they want anyway.
I'd be more concerned about the absence of locking wheel nuts than I am of the possible intermittent door locking issue...I never leave anything of value in the car but I know the wheels and tyres are "worth" about £2000 and are going to be major hassle to get sorted out let alone any damage caused as a consequence.

Has anyone had their wheels nicked when they have had locking nuts? I know of people who have had wheels nicked without locking nuts but never heard of the other scenario.

Spend the £100 on nuts and buy the XO as well.

you can buy a kit for £50 to break them off when you lose the key

ive never bothered, when I got the Vantage 5 years ago, there was only hundreds on the roads, the market on ebay for used wheels just isnt there ...much more financially appealing to steal Range Rover wheels or such like, if you are a ...also side steps and towbars can be taken at the same time ....or so it seems frown

just bear in mind some insurers dont cover your wheels, if you DONT have locking wheel nuts ...but then of course, common sense would say that such things should be standard fit on a £90K car, let alone a £20K one ....

You say that, but it's just possible that they've already made off with his DB9 and it's just a pile of hay bales under the mouldy car cover. Given how much he uses the car it could take him weeks to notice laugh

I'm looking forward to showing off my nice clean hood! I spent hours cleaning it and making sure that the (extremely small) green bit disappeared. It was only on one of the seams smile

It could be quite possible that it's just hay, but they did a good job biggrin

A clean hood.... After Di's comments I'm not touching that with a bargepole.

Yeah they did a good job. Looks like they might have taken the wheels off and left those behind with the hay. Should have got those locking nuts George!
