4.3 or 4.7 Vantage
Discussion
Was contemplating buying a 4.3 for about 43k but now have seen a few 4.7's drop below the 50k mark and may wait until winter to buy a 4.7
The 4.3 was a bit underwhelming in terms of punch and grant's book summarizes the 4.7 by stating it's what the 4.3 should of been in the first place!
My question is has anyone bought in the winter and found a genuine bargain? Best time to buy in their opinion? I'm hoping the 4.7 may fall into budget
Thanks

Put simply, yes, 4.7s will probably be in budget for you by winter.
But life is too short to wait a whole 8 mionths to buy, then another 3-4 months before you can even have some fun in it... Get a 4.3 now, or just s t r e t c h and see if you can get the 4.7 now instead
Or trade your 4.3 for a 4.7 next year. Buy smart (private both ways) and you might do OK.

My strategy was to get as high a spec 4.3 as I could and then get it breathed on by Bamford Rose. For £5K over my initial purchase price I will get 4.7 performance, nicer sound and ultimately for less cash than if I had gone for a similar spec 4.7.
That's the dilema 4.3 & BR vs 4.74.3 interior swung it for me
I'm not necessarily looking at 8 months maybe oct-dec just depends if i can get a 4.7 for about 43-45k. I dont mind waiting at all.
I saw a 26,000 mile 4.7 sell for 48k recently, so i'm hoping beyond summer these will drop a bit more and maybe pick up a lower miles car! I do remember some PH forum members comments on picking up bargains in winter (maybe lower than prices right now!).

That would be meAll high end cars drop in price over the winter.
Roadsters more so.
They all firm up around now, you can see that in the prices of V12V's and roadsters now.
IMHO the cheapest time to buy is January when the weather is still bad and people are more in need of the cash

How much cheaper did you pick it up for if you dont mind me asking? All high end cars drop in price over the winter.

But if you don't mind waiting the 8 months you can have a 4.7, then when you have an additional £5k, you can BR it and have 6.0 performance. yeti said:

Spot on Sir, why wait? The 4.3 is no slouch and it's 100% better than no Aston I purchased one as soon as my budget could afford a spec I wanted, even then it took me 5 months as I didn't want a black interior and I wanted a 2007 car. I am sure the 4.7 is better, but then so is the "S" and V12. You could talk yourself into a long wait, or get out there and enjoy a great car now. You have a valid point. My only gripe (and grant's book is spot on) is that the 4.3 is lacking in the torque department and having just sold my 911 I noticed that straight away. The 4.7 sounds a superior car not just with the extra torque but other mods like the suspension and steering feedback improvements. I'm planning to keep it 2-3 years hence the wait for the "right one" :-)
I had the same dillema just over a year ago, I did buy a 4.3 and then took it to Bamford Rose.
Rather than reiterate what I had done please look at the thread I wrote.
I absolutly love my car "Jessica" and cant imagine not having her, now for me thats quite a statement as I have gone through cars at quite a pace but I now have a car which hits every button.

Jessica is an awesome machine Ben, but in the interests of disclosure, you should note it has undoubtedly cost you more than the £7-8k gap that the OP is referring to between a 4.3 and 4.7 to get there :-)Rather than reiterate what I had done please look at the thread I wrote.

What you have ended up with is superior to any stock 4.7 out there, but anybody looking to go the BR route with a 4.3 should contact Mike for the options and associated costs of each stage of the upgrade.
Amusingly, the only Vantage I have ever been in is Ben's car... being punted round Goodwood on Trofeo tyres with a highy qualified ex-Aston driver (Mike) pedalling it. Think I'd be surprised if I got in a normal 4.3
Mind you, my 911 has 300bhp and as a ragtop is not a light car... But it goes like a rocket nevertheless. You rev the Vantge to get that full 380bhp and I would imagine they will shift very effectively. I doubt the 4.3 and 4.7, when both wrung out are very different, the 4.7 is just easier to drive quickly as it doesn't have to be quite so ragged

There's a very noticeable increase in performance between the 4.3 and 4.7 cars. Perhaps of more importance, is the improvements made in the suspension.
Drive a 4.3 car back-to-back with a 4.7 sport pack car and you will be very disappointed with the 4.3.
What about a 4.3 Sports Pack and standard 4.7? Genuinely curious??Drive a 4.3 car back-to-back with a 4.7 sport pack car and you will be very disappointed with the 4.3.
