I was just looking at a Hotwheels V8 Vantage - what would be the logistics of making a moulding from one of those model cars and squeezing the electronics into there?

I would be interested but 2 suggestions ....

1. I would start a new thread as the Emotion Control Until title will not really appeal to owners with the Volvo Fob

2. My beef is the size of the thing coupled with the key. My BMW has the key and remote as one. A post at the beginning of this thread showed the insides of the unit. and if you could come up with a complete new case that went on a keyring I would think it would go down very well. More to engineer I know, but also a bigger market ( in my view). You could also consider ( and this may not appeal to all) removing the light and panic button as I have never pressed either. I use the boot one all the time, but for the sake of a smaller unit would gladly sacrifice this also.

Agree on the bulk issue. My ideal would be a unit that looks like the ECU but has the innards from the Volvo fob inside. Just it wouldn't be used to start the car.

I would also be interested in a smaller, bespoke key fob 'solution'. I would also happily lose the light and panic buttons although, FWIW, I would like to keep the boot button.

I'm in, depending on price. To be honest, I have used the 'light' button, but only a couple of times so it's not exactly a game-changer. I use the boot release button often, but again, if push comes to shove, I think I can cope without it. Don't mind whether it fits over the existing casing or replaces it.

Yes, same here. I'd gladly lose the alarm and lights buttons, but boot is useful. Smaller would be a major improvement.

I am still waiting on quotation for the parts and tools.

The carbon fairing for the volvo fob will add 1.6mm in total thickness and 2.2mm in total width.

Honestly, removing the outer shell to house the electronic is a nightmare... That's what I have done on the ECU and it is very difficult to get right... I am not doing that ever again ! :-)

I will post costs as soon as I have more information.

There are much smaller volvo remotes.

https://www.apollo-auto.com/images/Volvo_S60_S80_V...

I have no ides if it will work with an Aston, but given it has the same set of buttons it should stand half a chance.

IF it did work then a decent case for it would be good as it would look nice and be smaller. From my personal point of view anything that made it even bigger would not be attractive.

Does anyone know if it will work. I am happy to buy one as long as I don't them incur hundreds at an Aston dealer getting it programmed. There is always the local volvo dealer I suppose!

Someone one on here may have the machine that does the programming?

That Chinese knock-off fob might be easier to de-case too...

No idea whether it would work, but would be surprising if it doesn't. Probably bigger indies have the gear, but something tells me main dealers will want a pile of cash.

I'll have anything that gets rid of the horrible Volvo fob smile

I do agree a new thread should be started and again, we ask the mods for their understanding in conducting the thread. It's in all our interests!!

Some of the Jaguar fobs look to have same button layout as well. There is a style that looks simulate to the ECU key with chrome sides and the plastic bits could then be replaced. Waisted a good few hrs on google and eBay looking at key fobs - very sad! But then at midnight I decided to take mine apart and when I put it together I triggered the car panic alarm and had to find the spare keys to turn it off. How to impress the neighbours.

May have a go putting together a few links of what I found.

Jag key idea briefly discussed here: http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&a...

This was the style I spotted. Was thinking of trying to transfer internals rather than reprogram as the button layout looks same so the board might fit. Only one way to find out.

Ok, keyless entry, interesting. How would the conversion work? Perhaps bump the thread above or start a new one.

Not so much keyless entry. That might be tricky. Just thinking if the shell could be used with the existing Aston internals. Will buy one unless anyone knows different and take it apart.

Still playing around with the original key. Tonight I bonded in the keys from an original fob and will add some more silicone/rubber around the edges and then polish up.

Looks great, but what's going on with that table cloth in the background, awfully lacey wink

Impressive David, well done.
I prefer the texalium buttons though despite the lack of signs :-)

I will be opening a new thread for the volvo fob as requested.

Also, I still have 3 CFRP ECU available. Any takers ? They are the very last :-D
One of them is fully assembled with the internals of a brand new plastic ECU key and therefore ready to be programmed to any car by your dealer.
