I had some new front tyres fitted by Stratstone on Friday but now I've looked at them I don't think that they are the right ones that they've fitted. They are P Zeros but there is no reference to Corsa on the sidewall. The rears say P Zero with reference to Corsa. Any V12V owners - do your fronts also have Corsa shown on the sidewall? It's a huge pain if they've got to be changed as it's a 100 mile round trip :-(

Hi Greg

Mine say Corsa on, but these maybe the new tyres that AM are sorting to take care of the extreme nature of the Corsa? I would ask the dealer, but if AM have not given the thumbsup, then the dealer has indeed fitted the wrong tyres. However, for me I would not personally mix tyre types on a car like this as it will affect the balance, even if it is only slightly.

The PZeros are the new option tyre. You may want to try and get the rears to match as I understand they are a much better handling tyre for everyday use especially in wet weather. They can't match the Corsas for dry warm weather grip but a very good compromise.

Thanks for the replies. I will call the dealer on Monday to confirm.

John, hope you're well. Still working on getting a pass for September's Belgium trip!

I am good Greg after a weekend in Wales with the 16 or 17 other Astons. The road rash will need sorting, but will leave it until after SPA. I hope you can make it smile

May be the new OEM tyre full stop!

Read that a whole raft of semi-slicks were going to be banned from road by November this year.

http://www.evo.co.uk/news/evonews/236977/trackday_...

There was also an of V12V tyres availability some time ago as well as these are semi-custom made shoes.

Perhaps the AM PCorsa was on the hit list and has been quietly withdrawn?

Corsas are certainly in the same category as the other tires mentioned in the article.

I work for the dealer that fitted you tyres. They where orderd from Aston Martin them self, there is only one part number I believe so these must be the replacent tyres. But please call us Monday and we will double check.

Does that mean they become illegal and you have to change your rubber? biggrin

That's interesting! Will the corsas already on cars or tyres purchased for future use become illegal in November or is it non retrospective.

I was thinking about buying a few sets while they're still available but don't want to get stuck with something that ends up as a MOT Fail or become non road legal.. Maybe I'll just buy a set of rears as 1st MOT is still 18 months away..

Yup I think you have the wrong tyres there! The V12V is fitted with the Pirelli "P-Zero Corsa System" which is basically two different types of Corsa tyre on the front and real (directional on the front and asymmetric on the rear).

See : http://www.pirelli.com/tire/us/en/car/sheet/pzero_...

I think you have been sold / fitted just the standard P-Zero tyres, which are not the same spec (or cost!)

see : http://www.pirelli.com/tire/us/en/car/sheet/pzero....

Awaiting a call back from the dealer and I have also asked AM directly for advice on the issue. I will let you know when i hear back.

The dealership has very kindly agreed to swap the front tyres to corsas as it is undesirable to have mixed tyres on the car and will cause understeer. I suspect it is also a potential safety issue.

Aston commented that the standard tyre is now the non-Corsa or option tyre. This is more suited to the conditions on the UK roads. They did however recommend that I remained with the corsas for the type of driving the car is used for (sadly it doesn't come out in the cold or wet!)

I have not yet had any comment regarding the position of the corsas in relationship to the new regulations. If I hear anything further I will let you know!

I'm by no means an expert on tyres but........Shouldn't the yellow dot line up with the valve stem to minimise balance weights? I would have expected better from a high performance car main dealer!

I believe so yes

The yellow dot is the light spot on the tyre and should be aligned with the valve which is deemed to be the heavy part of the wheel. This should then result in less balancing weights.

The red spot is to indicate the hight spot of the tyre and should be mounted against any low spot of the wheel (out of centre) but this is not so common nowadays.

I have spoken directly with Pirelli and they have advised that along with all other tyre manufacturers they are not prepared to advise what their ratings will be on any particular tyre. I suspect that the corsa tyres in the current design and composition will struggle with the new regulations, particularly as they become more rigorous at each annual revisions. This is not based on fact just my personal opinion :-)

Aston have not been able to comment which is not surprising as they would not be in a position to know if the tyre manufacturers are not yet releasing this data or which products will be available from July.

If I was a car manufacturer with a reliance on one individual tyre brand and specification I would introduce a second option that is more standard in tread design, hardness , efficiency and noise production just in case the original will no longer become available for purchase from the manufacturer at some point in the future...
