I drove through some standing water yesterday (an inch or so) and heard a warning tone but nothing on the display to say what was wrong. A few minutes later, I get a warning that the tyre pressure system has a fault. I hope a day to "dry out" may solve things but the problem was there this evening. Any suggestions?

Possibly unrelated to standing water - could simply be one of the tyres is just a couple of psi out and it decided to share the news with you at that moment. The sensors are inside the wheels / tyres, so water can't get in, unless your tyre is hanging off smile

Cheers

Thanks Kris. I have had the misfortune to get a flat, and in these circumstances is tells you so and you can see which wheel from the unit under the glove box. In the current case it is the system itself reporting a fault. All tyres, I am happy to say, look fine.

The Tyre Pressure System is a bit of a funny object to be honest and I've heard lots of stories about them going wonky... My opinion, take it out (which is what I did).

If I may ask, how exactly did you disable or remove it?

It's as easy as unplug it and remove it from the car.

Under the glovebox in the footwell there is a plastic beam - the system just sits in a bracket to the top right. Slide it out the bracket and pull it down towards you, clip on the back you pop out the plug with and thats you. The ECU doesn't throw out any faults as assumes all is well and as such means no warning symbols on the dash. Can plug it back in any time as well.

I'd also recommend you then push/tape some felt in it's place after as that beam is prone to rattling. In fact, i'd recommend you did that even if you wanted to keep the system in.

I've found it pretty useful. Starting the car on a very dark night and was quickly warned of a problem before really putting my foot down. A visual check didn't show a problem, but on that occasion the system was right. After a mile or so (the nearest garage) tire pressure was pretty low.

Ironically that does happen quiet often
Usually just after you have cursed it for being a POS laugh
