I haven't removed a wheel myself yet but I noticed when cleaning the wheels that what I thought was the wheel nut actually moves a little. If these are covers for the wheel nuts how do you remove them when you remove a wheel?

I don't think they do... so is it possible that your wheel nuts are loose???

Uh oh, it's never good news if your nuts fall out hehe

On a serious note, from Mikey on another thread:

The covers are crimped on and will stay on the nut when you take it off.
Make sure you do the two stage torque up when you put it back on wink

So if they are covers do I remove them first or undo the nut with them on? Don't want to ruin them.

To yeti, they don't turn but one or two move a little if you pull on them. They feel like they are held on with some sort of spring.

They are covers, but are not removable. They are a steel nut with a thin stainless steel cover pressed over the top. Just use a well fitting single hex socket on them to avoid damage.
