Guys, thank heaps for all the replies, but I think you've frightened me off buying one especially at the price I would have to pay in Australia. I thought I could buy one in England for about twenty three thousand pounds and by the time I ship it here it would cost about $50,000, still much, much cheaper than buying one here, but I am told by a good friend who is well versed in this area that I cannot import a car unless it is more than 30 years old.....I thought I was living in a free country country....it appears not. I could buy a pre 1989 model or live in England for a couple of years and bring the car with me. What a ridiculous law. I may have to complain to my local Federal Member....not that it will do any good.Welcome to the land of Milk and Honey unless you want to express free choice.
Well they're are pros and cons to living in Australa, but the very high tax on cars is one of the cons......but don't give up on your dream yet !i6 volante said:
To be expected really from someone who posts abuse.
Hmm, the irony is strong with this one Not sure what the antipodean rules on imports are but the early Vanquish 'came of age' recently and we lost a lot to Aus. Worth a definitive check as obviously rules covering the Vanquish will also cover the DB9. Maybe it's a sliding scale starting at 10 years?

Stupid. Now I know why my aussie friends are always going on about sending their cars home instead of selling them. Sounds like you need a friend in the UK who can register the car for you in your name.
I don't think it's as easy as that.......you have to be UK resident .Colinbentley said:
I've checked on line and it is correct....you may not import a car unless it is prior to a 1989 model unless you have lived and owned it in the UK for at least 12 months. At least there are some nice cars in the pre 1989 arena I can look at. Maybe not Aston Martins though.
Odd, as others have said there have been a number of Vanquish's up for sale by dealers claiming they can import them into Australia. To the OP...
Importing cars into Australia is an utter pain in the backside and is subject to a lot of nonsense spouted on internet forums.
I will be using a firm to import mine into Australia early next year and I'll be happy to point you in their direction if you send me a PM.

Just talked to a company that handles allthe details on importing cars ....and guess what......there is one exception to the 1989 rule.....an Aston Martin V12 Vanquish !!!!!! but you have to use a specific import company to handle it for you. It appears they are so rare here that you are not competing with local dealers by importing one......yeah but who can afford one ?

.....the auto gearbox in the i6 was positively 1970's vintage......
More nonsense of course. Strange then how this gearbox, the GM 4L80E, was good enough for the Bentley turbo and Rolls Royce Silver Spirit and Spur. Presumably their customers preferred a smooth gear change for a relaxing drive.Anyway here is a list of the applications taken from Wiki:
