ive been keeping a sneaky eye on the early AMV8 market for a while now, The original plan was to purchase april 2013 to allow me to iron out problems before LeMans.

It all stems from a drunken handshake whilst camping on houx this year, you know the type "yarr im going to buy one of those (points in the vauge direction of a vantage) and come here in it next year"

So anyway not being one to break my word, im now on the look out. Im pretty set on buying it from a dealer, buying private scares the crap out of me on something like this. Warranty is a word i very much like the sound of.

Ive noticed as we head into winter the prices do seem to be backing off a bit. although im not sure if thats because of the time of year or natural depretion sp*.
So my question is what time of year is best.

Im pretty much in the position to buy any time now but ideally march. although if the same car will cost me 2k more in march than say december then ill buy myself a christmas present.

Your feedback would be great.

I'm in the same boat but wanting a 4.7 for a good price. I could stretch to one now but some folk have said the soft-tops can drop by as much as 10k, so I'd expect the Coupes to as well.....now I like the idea of a 4.7 for £40-44k. I'm in no rush but damn I want one and the money is burning a hole smile

Get Grants book and keep yourself sane by reading all about it; watch the market and dip your toe in when the right car comes up!

I should also add, the right car has not yet come along....

There have been similar discussions running on various threads over the past months. I don't think there ever really is a bad time to buy. Of course there is the risk you buy a car today and next week see the same thing a couple of grand cheaper. The thing is though, if you're buying used, there won't be another the same, there may be similar but not the same. My advice would be to find the car you like and if it's the right one buy it. If you always wait for a better deal to come along you might be waiting a long time.......

Prices do tend to reduce in the winter time (November - February), but will recover slightly in the spring. It is well documented on here about prices between summer and winter of these cars.

If you are ready now, then start the looking process and buy the best one that meets your ideal spec. Don't just jump at the first one that comes along as there are plenty of V8V's now to choose from wink

Im not sure i want to be buying before winter unless its the right thing to do, as it would either have to be the daily or i would have to leave it in the garage.. which clearly wouldnt happen.

Having just bought now and watched the prices for a while I doubt a 4.7 will drop down to 40-44k this winter. They are holding their prices well as anything sub 50k (47-50k) with lowish miles get's snapped up quickly - this is what I found anyway. Also, 2007MY/2008MY 4.3's are still in the 40's.

Most dealers are willing to do a deal if you are serious so negotiate hard smile

I just bought from wilmslow stratstone and saw this there, certainly stands out cool

I think it's over-priced at current price/miles but no harm in offering 34-35k? If you want the sales guys details let me know wink

Really? What a load of rubbish laugh

If you are serious, like I said, can put you in touch with sales guy I dealt with. Very down to earth friendly chap.

Edit: Yes I dealt with Phillip Kneller.

Don't hold your breathe!
My old 4.7 Roadster was sold this time last year for £52k!
And that was before the REAL winter drop occured wink
OP look at buying between now and spring, when I bought my first one the prices seemed to bottom out Jan/Feb time when the weather is worst, everyone is depressed Xmas/New Year celebrations are over and they are maxed out on the credit cards with bills ot pay wink

Maybe privately. Not at a dealer though unless very high mileage.

I didn't actually negotiate the price with him, I did that with the MD there. I then dealt with Phil once price was agreed.

I bought midnight blue with blue interior (and I love it), so best thing to do is go see it. Maybe negotiate the price before you go?
Just depends what price you want to pay. I know it was originally 42k so maybe they don't want to eat into their margin too much now. I know earlier this year around Feb/Mar a car like this might have been around 36k if that's anything to go by. Hope this helps smile

Agree with Jan/Feb time and I'd definitely expect more of a drop in prices for soft tops. Just depends if you can negotiate some winter depreciation into the price now (that's what I tried to do) smile

Same experience here
I've since spent over £200k at Grange Exeter on a used 4.7 roadster and a new S roadster

Not at the moment, I check the market daily and there was an ex-members car on here went for £48k recently. There isn't the supply of 4.7s at the minute but I'm hoping a few of the current owners bump up to the V12's.

Its quite enjoyable watching the market so closely but as I say if the right car comes along, 4.7 tungsten with iron ore..... I'll be hammering the sellers door down smile
