RS4 Avant is my "practical" motor. And we've now got a Fiat 500 as a runaround. So I guess my V8V's a third car now. frown

Can't go wrong with an S2000, a nice 99-01 (ditchfinder spec) - I loved mine and still miss it. Terrific little cars!

330D has been the perfect all-in-one car. Quiet & comfortable for the daily commute, reasonably economical, quick enough to get by A road crawlers, large enough for 2 GSD's and trips to the tip and tows a dream. I keep thinking it's time for a change and can't think what on earth I would change it for.

For the money, compared to an MX-5 or MGTF, it's no contest! Don't care about traction control and so on and have very fond memories of my Integra Type-R for VTEC hilarity. TBH I can't wait smile

Do they have heated seats..? That is kind of important scratchchin

I don't think the earlier ones do no. Yes, TC is for soft lads. I don't get the whole MX-5 thing, they're fun but always have needed more power. The S2K was out of the box brilliant!

They're an absolute hoot to drive, the VTEC changeover isn't as harsh (the kick) as the b18 Integra engine but its fabulous, limiter at 9,500rpm....

They're a lot of fun in the snow too. I still have my old Prelude 2.2 VTEC kicking around. The banter we had with the Integra guys when we went on track days will stay with me forever, great bunch! Shame Honda make utter dross now.

From memory
99 UK Spec 240bhp
99 Jap Spec 260bhp with an alleged stiffer chassis (just check the underside)

We seem to be going off topic.

The forerunner to this was a comment on [ V8V - 4.3 or 4.7 ] about my most unlikely daily driver (for an Aston Martin owner), and it's extreme economy (2p per mile depreciation over 6 years and 40,000 miles).

I wondered if other Aston Martin owners used unlikely, perhaps very economical daily drivers, and in doing so ignored status considerations.

Obviously professional and business people could not play this inverted snobbery game. It would not give the right impression at all.

Rather than amusing stories of miserly motoring, I think I can see where this might end;

On Monday I usually use the Rolls Royce. Tuesday is my Jet Ranger to Monaco, where I keep a Bugatti and Ferrari. Normally relax on the yacht on Wednesdays. Need to think what colour my new Vanquish should be, although if I cannot decide, I might have to buy two.

Well, as I say, I do just that. My little Clio costs buttons to run, does 45-50mpg, I can leave it anywhere and not worry, servicing and repairs cost very little. Having a car like that allows me to have my AM.

I wouldn't get one as a second nice car, just as a daily driver. I want a convertible as a daily
That's my situation - just can't see the point of having the extra money tied up in a second expensive car just for a dialy driver. And of course it's no Aston, but an SLK55 AMG is a 'nice' car.

A £3k S2000 is a cool ragtop banger nowadays smile

And it frees up money to get that Series 1.5 E-Type that little bit sooner...

I can't really think of a cheap convertible that appeals to me.

I don't want anything Japanese. I want it to be fairly quick (0-60 in <6s), sound pretty good, reliable. Not a BMW. Alfa Spider 3.2 has been considered too but I thought the folding hard top of the Merc would be better for day to day use smile

Trouble is prices are probably going up at a faster rate than you're saving! Wish I'd bought one ten years ago when I came oh so close ...

I am not sure that running a 6 year old BMW and a 16 year old Porsche is quite in the category you allude to below.
Sorry if the truth offends.
Funny you should mention inverted snobbery???

The wife has an 03 Yaris 1.0...... Averages 52 mpg, and I'm just as happy to drive that as I am the Jeep.... Brilliant little car

By the time I've saved up, the bubble will probably have burst wink The novelty of the 50th Anniversary etc is gone and I'm looking for a tatty car to make special anyway.

Mine has heated seats (but had to fit them myself - easy DIY job). It also has a supercharger (and traction control) which takes the entertainment factor to a whole new level.

Pathfinder as I couldn't put a bike rack on the DB9 biggrin Plus a 993 but like Yeti am thinking I may just let it go... but probably won't. And a track machine for going mad. Unfortunatly none of them are economical but at least the Pathfinder can be left anywhere...

SLK55AMG as a previous post has said is a great second car and so usable. We ended up doing more weekends with that than the Aston this year. Drives well, makes a lovely noise and is so easy to place. The Aston is for the more grown up weekends, not the runs to the supermarket
