Hi All, looking at changing my much loved 996 Turbo for something more exotic...

Budget of about £35k and wondered if anyone out there has owned either or both (360 or V8Vantage) or has any opinions...

Would be used as a 2nd car for weekends etc...

Any help would be much appreciated

Thanks

The V8V is certainly more of an everyday car and significantly more luxurious and modern than the 360.
But I have a V8V so a tad bit biased.
I have extensively driven my brothers former 360 Spyder though. Great fun. Awesome sound. But it's simply not an Aston. End of.

One is a sports car, one is a GT. I think the V8V (at that budget, a 4.3) would feel a bit slow compared a 360 or to your old Turbo. But it's a very special car that will make you feel great every time you drive it.

You will also possibly get far less negative reactions to it, should such things worry you...

This is however the Aston forum, this thread will only go one way smile

Drive both, they're the opposite ends of the spectrum. One of them will win you over.

I say apples and oranges...

But if I had to choose, I'd go for a V8 Vantage, because it has an interior :-)

If we're talking a F360 CS however.... then I would opt for the Ferrari. The 360 CS is an amazing car, but more of a track beast than a road car.

Except they're about 3x more than the budget stated in the op.

I think at £35k you're going to get a better V8V than you are 360. If it has to be a Ferrari I'd get a 355.

Probably the best way of looking at it yes

Without wishing to stereotype, the 360 is probably going to need a lot more work at its age than the Vantage.

running costs likely in another league too ....with the Vantage its nearly high end Ford running costs, at an independant, certainly no more costly to run than a premium German saloon with big engine

as a weekend car to do a few thousand miles in, something Italian does often appeal....but for daily use/touring holidays then Vantage all the way

I only ever drove a 360 F1, it felt awful, I still love the look of the 360 though.

As others have said, for £35k you should land a nice V8V with less than half the running costs.

Did you ask the same question on the Ferrari forum?

Hi Simon,

I did post it there too...

I'm trying to get a balanced view and so far the info has been both informative and useful..

More likely to get either end of the scale rather than the middle smile

IMHO, The Ferrari will get you more attention (especially in Rosso) however the Aston will say more about you.

The performance of the 4.3 is a bit disappointing and will be a big step down from a 996 T. If you could stretch to. 4.7 you will be a happier man.

If you don't mind me asking how old are you?
I had the same dilemma before I bought my V8V. Should I get the 360 as I always wanted one from being young. That's where the problems begin. By the time I could afford one I had a few grey hairs showing and driving a 360 as I headed towards 50 felt a bit too much like an old man desperately digging his fingernails into his slowly disappearing youth. Unless your under 40 get the Aston! You can then avoid the sneering looks and the inevitable "silly old fool" comments.

The 360 is the bigger thrill, but the Vantage is definitely the more complete car.

Hard to believe two such cars can be bought at that money...

In a perfect world I'd have both! But with a tight budget like you've got, the Vantage makes sense on so many levels.

Not keen in 360s, I think they look like boats. I'd take George's advice and get a 355. It'll depreciate much less and looks/sounds gorgeous. Or else I'd wait and/or save more and get a 430.

My neighbour had a 360 convertible with the F1 gear box which he sold last weeked to return to an Aston. The Ferrari sounded great but required a mortgage to run it and he wasn't a fan of the notchy gearbox. Go for a manual V8V. I'm chuffed with mine.

Having looked a Ferrari before I bought the V8V, it's not as usable on a daily basis. I'd personally find it difficult to park it "anywhere" and running costs are a lot higher and I'm assuming it would be an older car?

Buy an aston, they are cool cool

to my mind, whilst of course it can be done, I don't see the 360 as an everyday car

I actually think in terms of 'specialness', you'll get much more from the 360 because for me, the 4.3 Vantage is just a touch too underpowered - I think at the OP budget, bang for buck is much greater in the Ferrari

But I agree with others that I'd worry a 360 at that price is unlikely to be a great example

As for looks, I find it fascinating because for many cars, there is a consensus but with the baby F car, there have been such split opinions. I like the 355 but don't absolutely love it the way some do, I actually like the look of the 360, I really like the look of the 430 but I'm not such a fan of the 458. There are others that think the 458 is the best thing since sliced bread and dislike the 430 and plenty who think the 355 is the prettiest. Personally, I don't think they've ever come close in the looks stakes with their entry level car since the stunning 308/328 but it's kind of cool that there are so many divided opinions....................except on the 348, which I think pretty much everyone agrees is very far from Ferrari's best.............although I'm now preparing for a barrage from the 348 fans !
