Hello All.

I just sold my Vantage V8, it was registered in December 2006, I was the 6th Owner of the car, one trader called me and said he would never buy it because of the amount of owners, but I still had a lot of interest in it and sold it relatively quickly.

Would you be put off by the amount of owners if you were buying a six year old Aston which has had one owner per year since new?

Just interested to know!

Cheers.

While 6 owners in 6 years is perhaps a bit higher than usual, it's fairly normal for high end cars to have more owners than your average family car

What are owners' experiences? I'm only the second owner of my 2007 Vantage and I must admit I did find that appealing as a buyer.

Everybody advises buy these cars on condition ( and service history) rather than any other criteria. For me 1 owner per year on an AM is not the same as one per year of a ford, BMW Merc or other mass produced car. My two pennies worth anyway smile.

Didn't you ask to see sight of the V5 before you parted with your money ? 6 owners could be an indication that there is something wrong with the car .........it would put me off

an owner per year (or more) seems quite common on some Italian brands, I guess people buy them for a year and dont fancy a big service bill so they trade it in for something different

When being told the history of my car at purchase, I was surprised to hear that I would be the 4th owner, in under 3 years.

The dealer had known the car from new, and so knew the reason for each change.

A new world to me, but it appears that some high value car owners like to have a new one very frequently.

I was just grateful to the previous three owners. Their generosity (depreciation) enabled me to buy an as new car, for little over half it's original cost.

Car perfect, pampered service history, warranty, and to be a 'keeper', so no need for me to worry.

Certainly if you do plan to sell, too many owners is a concern, but a car's condition is the crucial aspect.

For high end and rare cars it generally is a positive in my book. When buying cars like these generally the costs of ownership are very well understood and any work is carried out when inspected at the maintenance intervals. If a car is a 6 owner then its been cherished 6 times.

As others have said its all about the condition and the documented maintenance history

No i didn't concider that and as for the car there is nothing wrong with it i put it down to the sportshift gearbox putting owners off as it takes a while to gell.

A interesting subject - when I had my V8, I bought on condition (and price) I was the the 7th owner in 4 years (at least one of the previous "owners" on the log book was a main dealer. I owned the car for 18 months and had no serious problems. When it came to trade up I was offered some insulting px valuations (including the dealer whose name was in the book) due to the amount of previous owners but eventually I did a deal - the V8 was on the dealer's forecourt for just over a week before being sold.
So my conclusion based on this experience, despite what dealers say - if the price and condition are right they will sell - I saw plenty of rough one owner cars when I was looking................

Probably the most ridiculous point I have ever seen made on this forum .......don’t wish to be too rude, but are you from the planet Zod?

I don't think I would actively be put off, buying on condition and service history being my prime interests. Having said that I certainly wasn't disappointed when told my 4 year old car was a one owner example!

I don't regard it as a positive or a nagative, jut not that bothered. However, a buyer pulled out from my DB7 at the last minute when he found out i was the 6th or 7th owner. He hadn;t asked, I didn't know and he only found out when HPI'ing the car.

I don't think it indicates or even suggests something is wrong with the car, some people just like to tick the boxes. Following the same pattern as the other owner, I sold the DB7 after a year to move to a DB9. So I contributed to the 7 owners in 8 years statistic! Others went to Porsche, Ferrari or whatever.

So to answer the question; does it make a difference? Not until you come to sell it, then your market is slightly reduced as the likes of Michael wouldn't want it.

Mr G, should this be added to the list..?

Na because the condition is more important...but the trade do put value on low ownership cars......and I would rather buy a 1 owner car.......which is the case with my DB9 ie i'm the second owner in 7 years....also the Toureg we are the second owner....in saying that our BMW 325cab we are the 4th owner, but it was cheap as chips smile

Don't you get him started Yeti rolleyes

And Mr G....what the hell has Zod got to do with it???....the poor chap hasn't said a word smile

I would suggest the following pecking order when buying a used Aston...

1. Specification
2. Condition.
3. Price.
4. Ownership history.
5. Extra sex.

Ergo, I'm not as anal as Mr G about the amount of owners, though I do concede that it is a consideration smile

1 careless previous owner, or 4 careful owners?

Who spotted that tall Top Gear man, filling a DB9 (or DBS) with petrol, whilst dangling the filler cap on the paintwork?

The trouble is with 4 previous owners its far more difficult to find out if a car has been well cared for .....with one previous owner it's easy

As I posted on another thread a few days ago; mine has had 5 previous owners in 7 years, but the odd thing was they all took it to the same main dealer to be serviced. Seems a bit odd that.
