Last minute advice on DBS/DB9
Discussion
As a huge fan of the DB9 Volante, I would still say get the DBS - it was a simple case of economics for me, I didn't have the extra 70k I would have needed at the time! I wouldn't have had the 33k needed now, but that's not the piont
If the 30 odd grand isn't a big deal then jump on the DBS. It's basically a DB9, just a little bit better in every way.
But if you're looking at an MY2011 DB9, then that has the switchable suspension, chassis bracing and so on I think. It had basically become a DBS... apart from the extra power (but reduced torque), the carbon brakes and bigger wheels with wider tyres.
If you're even in the position to choose, get the DBS.

agree with the above and other comments......DBS is totaly stunning ......get it bought If the 30 odd grand isn't a big deal then jump on the DBS. It's basically a DB9, just a little bit better in every way.

It is an interesting one, two "similar" Aston's £33k apart!
Emotively and dynamically the DBS Volante wins my wallet every time, but clearly it doesn't yours and £33-big ones is a useful amount of money and the DB9 is a great car!
So I would do two things (apologies for the long post I get carried away )
1/ Take another...... extended...... test drive first, then see how you feel. These car's aren't cheap and a short test drive just doesn't give you chance to get a real feel for the difference, there is no doubt you have more room (dynamically) to grow into the DBS from a drivers perspective.
2/ Consider what you are getting for your extra £33k.. key bits (not all).............
[ A- Higher prestige/image.
B- The aggressive exterior design and larger sexy 20-inch wheels with wider tyres.
C - Upgraded leather quality and lovely rear leather buttresses, enhanced refinement with extra roof insulation B&O etc!
D - Improved rigidity.
Assuming it is Touchtronic, interestingly the weight difference between the two is negligible (unlike the coupe!) but why if it uses CCM's and carbon panels.. the answer is enhanced rigidity, so the DBS offers a better dynamic base for you to enjoy it as a drivers car.
E - CCM Brakes - awesome, larger, fade free carbon ceramic brakes.
F - ADS adaptive dampers, two cars in one, more comfortable in standard, more sporting in Track mode. Unless the DB9 you are viewing is a 2011MY in which case it will have ADS as well!
G - Changed final drive ratio for enhanced throttle response and in gear pick-up
H - Faster gear change regime and more aggressive throttle map in sports mode (+ DSC sport mode)
I - +40bhp but......... - 23Lb-ft of torque, so the DBS needs to be revved hard to show its gains, which reflects its more sporting style.
etc......]
The overall combined changes do create a more involving dynamic car in the DBS, but if you aren't into pushing the car's dynamic limit and you prefer the DB9's looks, and still feel the same after a second drive, save yourself £33k! Although you could always consider a middle ground... a younger Virage with room to negotiate! https://used.astonmartin.com/en-GB/Search/Details~...
Edited to add - PS I like the style of the guys who have mentioned the NEW 13MY DB9, great car but £150k+ with a few small options!

The cost isn't £33k though, if the car is kept for 2 more years let's say, the DBS will still be worth £20-25k more than the DB9 maybe at the end?
Totally agree Tim, but it's still £33k more now - which could be used for something else, so it is relevant in the buying process.Job done!!!
Both cars turned up this morning and I drove both again. All the common sense told me to go for the DB9 but romancer in me, coupled with the realisation that it's very cramped in the back and that the kids will be much bigger in a few years time was enough to sway me.
If I'm honest, the DBS looks far better on the drive as well so that's what I went for.
The next car I buy will have to have four proper seats. Therefore, I've only got 2-3 years in a DB9 and there's no point b*ggering about!
Still, then I'll be able to get a Range Rover and a Series 1 1/2 Drophead E-Type in BRG.
Thanks for all the advice.
