Hi, I have a strange one for you... Ever since I got the car the AM logo has appeared on sat nav when starting up. For some reason today it has decided to remove the AM logo and say "please wait" instead??
I have tried everything to make it go back to how it was but it refuses and just say s please wait every time it starts up.
One it starts up it works fine as it has always done but I want my logo back!

Has anyone had his happen?

Ps. I didn't change disc or anything like that, it just parked up last night working fine and then started up today with no logo!

Thanks

Sounds like it can't read the disc ( if you have one with a DVD ). Try tacking it out and giving it a clean and trying again.

I have been confused by the random appearance of the AM logo. If the ignition is switched off while the satnav screen is still up the logo will appear the next time the screen rises, i think confused

I'm very interested in this topic. I had eaxactly the same happen to my car. The problem got progressivly worse and eventually said that the disc could not be read. Your car is in the early stages of my car. I took the disc out, cleaned and cleaned it, then put a disc cleaner in to clean the reading head. Made no difference at all. Tried it about 5 times. No difference.

I did speak to someone and he said that the reading head / eye begins to get dirty and unlike a CD a DVD (Satnav) had a lot more info to read, and when it can't read it, it slows down and eventually stops. I'm told to clean the head properly is the only way and is much cheaper than replacing the SatNav. But I'm not certain about this info.

If anyone knows, I'd love to hear it as well

Plus 1, that is how it is on my MY 2010 car.

OP sounds like a different issue though, I've never seen the "please wait" dialogue.

Is there a reason why manufacturers use a HD and DVD system nowadays when surely a simple SD memory card will suffice? I would have thought the less moving parts the better, and both HD and DvD will wear out, it's just a matter of time.

It is a common problem, especaially on the DvD-only systems. As most of you know, it is an (old) Volvo system (therefore no SD system) and to see how common the lens problem is, see here:

https://www.google.com/search?q=volvo+navigation+s...

(also the solution can be found on several Volvo fora, in summary:
- clean discs
- if that does not work, clean lens
- if that does not work, replace lens
- if that does not work, replace DVD unit
-> rergular Volvo part(s), can be ordered at every Volvo/AM dealer)

Mine is the MY07 DVD version.. I have now tried changing the disc for the other one in the case and its doing the same thing so I assume its not the disc? I have tried ignition on, off, resetting the setting within the sat nav etc... Nothing changes it back to the logo?

I will buy a DVD cleaner and try that tomorrow.

Would disconnecting the battery do anything? Maybe reset it?

I am baffled as its been fine since purchase, until today!

Nice try! I disconnected the battery. No difference at all. Then I disconnected the DVD player itself, on the DB9 its under the rear parcel shelf (you can't get at it from the boot), again no difference other than the stereo system wouldn't work either. I also tried all the other discs, again nothing.

Found something on ebay where a company that sorts out Volvo DVD SatNav's, they are in Bath Nr Bristol, but you have to take the player there. I have no connection with them.

The way I was thinking was, if it's a part that a Volvo dealership can sell me, "how hard can it be?".

Anyone got any Volvo part numbers ?

I wonder how hard it is to replace the Volvo based system with the later Garmin based system?

Hello its me again,

Sorry, no can do again. AM in their almighty wisdom put a fibre optics system in by Linn. So what you get is a rather high tech, bespoke system. Bespoke being the optium word.

Took the car in to have a Amp added, thought the stereo was not loud enough, said no-can-do. I thought it was just him. But then 2 other places said you can't alter it. If you look on some ebay or internet places, you need to read what they offer carefully. They can basically add an amp and stereo system and run it through the Infotainment System you look at in the car. oversimplifying it, you have 2 stereo systems in your car.

The Infotainment system is fully integrated with the car. You CAN change the SatNav, but you need to change the rest of the infosystem to match. It can be done, "but at what cost".

Anyway, have you seen the SatNav system, no one has discussed how brilliantly wonderful the system is. AM certainly chose a Gem when they looked to Volve to get the system

Last year an owner in New Zealand replaced the volvo satnav in his V8Vantage and DBS with a modern 7" system.

I just read the threat. It looks like an aftermarket system. Did he have to leave the old system in to run the rest of the infotanment system?

Yes he did, or rather his dealer in Auckland did. The 7" hand held (I Go software) unit with a 7" screen fitted into the original screen slot and can be switched on/off as normal. There is a wide choice of units on fleabay http://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/i.html?_trksid=p3984.m57...

You can get more info about his mod on the AMOC forum.

Better read the threads in the Google search I posted yesterday, and (on the Volvo fora) you will find many tips/suggestions how to clean the lens, replace the lens, and even replacing the entire DVD unit (including part numbers, etc).

Hello Guys,

I've been trying to look for the iGo Primo with a 7" screen SatNav and I can't seem to find it. I'd love to have a look at trying to fix it myself, can someone please link me with somewhere I can buy it?

Thanks.

Hello Boys, I'm back .....

Took the SatNav apart today and was left with this

Then I had a look at the unit itself

I looked at the other threat and I'm wondering how they did it. I tried to prize apart the unit itself, but it seems pretty much sealed. Was the Australia setup a software change. I'm wondering if they canabalised the unit and installed just the screen without the surround of the normal SatNav. The SatNav is the actual thing that moves the SatNav cover up and down.

Now I'm a bit stuck, I can manually move the dash SatNav cover and stick a Halfords TomTom in with blutac ...... ummm Or I can get the old system fixed and use that.

I asked astonmartinbit.com about the unit and if it can be changed his words were,

The later cars have a Garmin system, not practical to change though,
optical drives etc. like your stereo its too integrated.
Might be worth investigating software updates for it though.
Yes that's the smallest unit though we sell new drive gear kit for it.

In order to change the system to the Auzzie one, I need more info and see how it's done. I'm not scared to try, just need more info. I'll be damed if I will have a beautiful car and have a £99.00 Halfords SatNav Blutacked into the dash. No matter how wonderful the Volvo system is, its got to have the edge on Blutac.

Anyone's thoughts on this would be most welcome ......
