Does anybody else think that AM is undervalued ?
You may know the following, but here is my opinion.

It depends how you value a company, and whether you are a business investor, or a collector of businesses.

A successful business investor should be able to obtain an annual return of at least 10% (combination of income and company value gains). The easiest way to fail though, is to overpay when you buy.

Business investors would base values on (a) what the future increase in the company value might be, and (b) what the regular income return on their investment might be.

The valuation of a business might be 10 times the annual profits, or where a company is growing profits quickly, a higher multiple would be justified.

With Aston Martin, they do seem to have required regular injections of money to keep going, so that would be very worrying to many business investors.

If you are a collector, none of this applies. You just pay what you need to.

If you take into account it's highly geared with falling revenue, diminishing sales and cash pile then the position was only going to deteriorate.

One thing is for sure the new partners haven't over paid for their shares.
I agree with your first paragraph, but puzzled by your second. What future profits growth do you envisage?
I salute your intellect, bow you can talk about clever things teacher

Personally I'm a bit of a tt that can only really talk about V12's verse V8's and black cars jester

Having said that no one has mentioned the Italians and the News keep telling me the Italians have bought into AM and not Mercedes ..... rolleyes

My point wasn't around future profits it was based on the reported strategic strength that the new partner was offering with access to DB technology and the inherent weakness of AML. In this case AML were dancing but were not leading.

BTW If you know anyone paying a ratio of profit x 10 in these times can you please put me in touch? I'll pay a commission on a completed deal winkyes

Nothing ostentatious of vulgar about my Mustangs either BTW. 5.8L Supercharged 662 HP Shelby leaves my Aston for dead over any distant.

Even through corners Frank? wink
Well,...not too many proper comers around here but I will agree that each cars has different attribute strengths..... wink

Anyway, I now no longer own the VW. I've replaced it with an extremely chavvy Audi S3 in bright orange! So feel free to criticise that. It's certainly ostentatious! smile

Notwithstanding the mirrors (WTH!) I really do quite like it for a car that you can park in single spaces. Also the dark DLO and wheels look nice as I'm sure you'll agree - actually, now that you're showing your inner aspirations for a true footballer-look, I'm even more convinced than before that you really do like my Aston. smile

Yep, that is starting to worry me. Without an OEM tie-up it wont be long before we need another injection of cash and "partial owner"

Yes, if DB technology does become available (not a word in the official announcement), it will presumably include access to a wonderful 'parts bin', but without the associated development cost. Enormously valuable help to AML financially.

I have not done any arithmetic (AML is of course a private company), but as the current profits are rumoured now to be modest, the Investindustrial transaction probably values the company at more than 10 x profit.

Your BTW comment presumably refers to a company sale in it's entirety, rather than the market value of PLCs, where under 10 is less common. BP even stands out with a dividend yield above 5, but a company value below 5. Worries still present.

i am pleased that Mercedes might be involved. They do a nice 2.0 Diesel engine. Reliable, economical and it has a manual option so pretty sporty.
Are you thinking of fitment to the Cygnet?

The mirrors are standard on the S3, made from anodised aluminium so unpainted. I'm going to get the anthracite bits on the wheels powdercoated in a similar colour silver as I don't like the colour they are at the moment.

I hate black alloys and will never like the footballer look, however, I think I have a secret boy racer in me! I love hot hatches, especially in lurid colours!

Only downside is I'm going to be even more well known to the police now grumpy

Unfortunately very likely, but the colour is probably worth it - It does look great in the pic. Its funny how different colours suit different cars; If I had a Lamborghini I would definitely try and go for colour like that, but I don't think it would suit an Aston. Even a footballers one!

My father in law loves anything that rubbishes AM. We have just had a telephone conversation whereby he claims that Tata withdrew their offer of 380 million because the company was being mismanaged. Without trolling through all the previous posts I informed him that it was Mahindra. Am I correct?

You are Rob. Tata never had an offer on the table (offically) it was M&M or InvestIndustrial. We now have the latter.

The company mismanaged..? Obergruppenfuhrer Bez, Mr Aston Martin himself, Our Glorious Leader, his holiness The Aston Lama, engineering's second coming, Kim Jong Bez, namesake of the DBS UB10, slowest driver at the N24 race, inventor and chief pronouncer of the name Wanqwish... mismanagement?

Come now, as if rolleyes

You left out that he's responsible for a lipsticked Toyota wearing AM badges, which is all anyone should need to know.
