Any standard audio owners upgraded sound system?
Discussion
My vantage has the standard sound system.
It's certainly good enough, but when certain songs come on through the iPod unit the speakers cannot handle the various frequencies and sound gets slightly distorted.
After having the denision iPod unit fitted a few weeks ago, I was quoted a couple of grand to get the premium sound system fitted (the 700W one).
Is there any other way (that has been tried by users here), that gives as good an output?

Because of AM very personalised system, it's hard to change the system, unless you use thier own stuff, hence the few grand quote. It might be an idea to go to a Automotive HiFi store and ask them to test different speakers. They are the only component that can be changed without too much stress. If you got some supreme speakers it might help, the problem being is that AM's stereo system is already pretty dam good.
The only, "easy", way to put in a thumping stereo is to add your own. In that you put in your own system completely and run it either by your phone, new head unit or remote control. You can of course use the speakers (which you would need to change), but the rest needs to be new and independant. I don't think you can take the old one out without the rest of the info system stop working.
Whilst this may seem a bit extreme to put a second system in, it could be VERY cost effective and the sky is the limit as to what you can have. 1kw or 2 kw system would be easily attainable, although you will be short on space in the boot with the introduction of amps. But amps have come on a lot over the years and are smaller and lighter (but they may need air cooling) if you start looking at a 2kw type system.

Just searched 6speedonline.com for Audio Upgrade and there are pages of threads. One guy changed the door speakers and improved his enjoyment for $100. Worth a read.

Just found this in only a minute or so;
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2-1-ORANGE-CAR-HIFI-SET-...
Looks like you can get 4Kw, yes 4000 watts, for about £1k, ok you'll need a head unit, but the £1k system can easily be customised to incorporate a stack of speakers and even 2 amps. 8Kw !!!!!! Easily attainable for LESS than AM want for an upgrade. Imagine 8Kw ? That would make the windows shake, would defo need it's own power supply

Will do. mine has the 260W system which is ok but not particularly loud and any base causes the sub woofer to thump. The system in my Audi is fking awesome, why can't AM manage this without spending thousands. IMO they took a step backwards (and probably spent £1000's more than necessary) from the DB7 when they decided to integrate instead of a standard din fitting. I swapped the ste becker 80's throwback out of that for a top end pioneer with iPod, Bluetooth phone, memory card, for about £500 - it sounded brilliant, and more to the point I could have swapped it again easily when new tech such as DAB came out.

I know!
I did the same in my former DB7.
The sound was awesome as a result!
I'm not saying the sound from my standard V8V is bad. In fact it's quite alright.
But I want better. Much better!
But of course I need to consider the mounting cost! And ultimate resale will not change much with an aftermarket hifi. If anything it could (not definitely) hinder the sale. (Which is no where near consideration yet!)
Possibility of finding a banged up vantage with the upgrade? Purchase the necessaries?

Its not the Watts what count (sorry couldn't resist). 4000w will create a loud noise but I bet the one in the link posted by Slaker that uses a Audison SRx amp sounds a million times better and its only 4 x 6ow output. I have always run pretty low watt amps in car and home with a focus on audio quality and matched speakers. These days the focus is on how many db can be produced but not sure thats what the OP wants...
Yeah, what Stonic said
8kw is over 11bhp, that's a significant portion of the engines power at idle, and a huge amount of heat to get rid of. Good amplifiers run at their maximum power all the time they're powered up, which suggests that any amp over about 1k would have to be a deliberately bad design, just to get round heat issues. I've got the 700w Alpine, and even that I think is a bit of fiction - there's no way the amps get hot enough for it to really be 700w, unless there's lots more scattered about than the ones behind the passenger seat? It does sound ok though, for a car system.
If it's distorting, it's far more likely to be bad speakers, physical resonance, or badly designed amps than insufficient power. Even 100w is enough to be painfully loud in a space that small, with good speakers. The power handling capability of speakers varies wildly, and good speakers cost more than good amps.
In a past life I worked on monitoring systems in recording studios, and you definitely wouldn't choose to run amps that big if you wanted it to sound ok.
If all you care about us it being loud, and you don't mind the extra weight of additional batteries and cooling systems, then I can't see why it would be a big problem. It's certainly physically possible to get that many amps in a car the size of a V8V.
