The Jag has about 120 ponies more than the AM, and matey boy wonders why it's faster than the AM. No st Sherlock !

Yep I concur
A couple of points that XKRS is 105k the Aston is a base V8 at £85k
The XKRS is 122BHP more no wonder its quicker!
I saw EVO testing one a while back, it is quick but the finish and character of it lets it down
I'd be interested to see what he thinks of my S with the BR 550 BHP vs the XKRS, especially as that would even the price and power differences wink

he picked the Jag because it could "do this" as it accelerated away from the Aston... would I be right in thinking that if acceleration was his only priority, then he would be better off with a GTR?

Both lovely cars, if anybody ever has that dilema to make, then its a good problem to have isn't it!

Bloody Hell Mikey, so have you actually done the deed? Please tell us all about it if you have. My car is so different with 456BHP, yours must be an absolute monster with another 100. I am hoping to add another 25 in January just waiting for a date.
As for that Jag v Aston video, my God the XK is certainly not a looker . Molly and I have driven one, it has a mighty engine which in my opinion overwhelms the chassis. It would have been a little fairer to have put them around a circuit where the Astons better handling and brakes would have clawed back some of the power difference.

I think the Jaguar looks awesome, it's big, squat, looks fast, looks aggressive. I think it looks bril. I'm sorry, I'm colour orientated and the white with red V8 just does not do it for me. frown

As for the comparison, bit silly comparing a more expensive, faster, more horsepower car. Stick it against a base DB9 and see who does what ...! Having said that, its 2 different cars, the Jag is an everyday car designed to be a run-of-the-mill work and back car. Astons are hand built and a different kettle of fish ........

If the jag were £80k, I'd have it, if its £105k, I'd save up another £20 and get a DB9.

Comparing cars really does need to be on a like for like basis, you could put a £300k Phantom against a £50k GTR and see who goes the fastest .......

Interesting to know what the depreciation is on both cars ........ ? I bet the Jag loses a lot quicker ........

It almost seems as though the jag is trying to be a bit DB9 ish with its size and "comfort", but trying to be more DBS ish with its performance.
Agree with above comments though about this chap. If its speed he's interested then buy a GT-R.

Just on a side note, if Aston decided to evolve their V8 to a 5.0 supercharged monster, I'm certain it'd develop quite a hell of a lot more torques and ponies than the jag, and for sure would "do this" out of a roundabout EASILY!

OR!
Just give him a super tuned Bamford Rose V8V.
Job done.

Not watched the video yet, just about to go do that.

But from reading the thread first, it appears they used Jags flagship model Vs Astons Base model.

Perhaps the test was biased before it started.

Surely it should be xkr vs vantage or db9 and the xkr-s vs the DBS, new vanquish or the yeti mobile!

Indeed, I think you're right.

I think it would kick the DBS / Vanquish arse as well ...... the advantages of mass production and a large financial backer that does not mind spending on R&D.

Opps that's a different threaD, yes ....? eek

To my mind.... Monster performance figures are largely irrelevant outside of the pub....... Took me 3 hours to do 60 bloody miles the other week.... On a motorway at thatrolleyes..... I could have been in the fastest car in the world.... I wouldn't have got there any quickerhehe
