I'm pretty sure the V8 and the V12 have the same 51/49 f/r weight distribution.
I believe its more to do with the engine sitting higher in the V12 but WTF do I know, I have a pipe and slippers car rolleyes Doesn't affect TonyV12V as he just pops his wallet in the footwell which evens things up biglaugh

Yeah, but higher up, and the turning moment will be larger, as the weight is more towards the ends of the car. Not that it matters in the slightest unless you MTF a hell of a lot U.

Yes, higher up as no dry sump. But the weight is still contained inboard of the front and rear wheels so not really much more towards the ends of the car, although of course the extra four cylinders need to go somewhere. However, I agree that significant MTFUing would be required to make the difference problematic.

The V12V is my first Aston having changed from a 997GT3.
The V12 is a better all rounder in comparison to the Porsche and because Porsche have lost the plot and I've now got a frigging Aston badge and a piece of art in my garage, the decision was a fabulous one!!

I like my v8v with SP. More than happy with it driving around twisty roads as the engine is also fairly flexible in nearly any gear.....or maybe I don't know any different because I've never driven a v12v confused

You actually have the difference in your text. The V8V is fairly flexible, the V12V is massively flexibly. All that torque cloud9

Just had a thought, maybe I could sell the v12v to mindy as its "easier" to drive....bingo biggrin

Ps. Discovered on long twisty roads I could keep it in 4th and drop the speed quite low (15/20mph) but in the v12v are you saying you can keep it on 5th/6th??

yes Put it in sixth at 20mph then plant your foot. Goes like an express train all the way to 190mph without changing gear biggrin

Obviously can't do that in the UK, but the pull is immense in sixth from low speeds.

As a 4.7 V8 owner I get a range of over 300 miles between fill ups. What sort of range are you V12 drivers getting? I only ask as I plan to get a V12 next year and I once had a Z3m Coupe (the breadvan). It was a great car but it pissed me off on long runs because I had to fill it up after 180 - 200 miles.

It depends on how you drive it.... If you drive mainly motorway then 300 miles is possible, 200 miles of spirited driving with some normal stuff thrown in or about 75 on a trackday. I think you will find between 12 & 15MPG is the norm around here for a V12V.

From reading all these responses about the v12v I really don't think ill like it smile

Filling up the 4.7 on a long journey wasn't too bad 300-350 miles per tank!

On the JLC trip the Vantages were consuming fuel at a fairly similar rate. Not much in it cruising the autoroutes and on the twisty parts I suspect the V12Vs were using less revs as they could use at least one higher gear to achieve the same rate of acceleration.

Purdey always averaged about 22mpg sometimes as much as 26mpg. It is fair to say we always seemed to do reasonably long trips. You guys in cities sure get a hammering with fuel costs.
Jonby are you on the beers? I am still on the wagon!
