Y 100 , Bob, it is not to late to cancel. I would not dream of putting your new car on with Admiral, I am sure that you have 21 days cooling off period. If you know of anyone that has had a claim settled within 7 days with no hassle at all I would be most surprised. Ring the A&T group insurance company . My premium for Purdey was £1175. Might be a tad more next year!! Tell them Rob Taylor sent you.
Many thanks for your reply Rob,,,need to sleep on this one. Mixed reviews here, Admiral name seems to scare some, did me too to start with. Whats not in dispute is treatment you have received from A & T / Hiscox,,,1st class and no mistake. The package I have with Admiral covers most things (you'd need to be an insurance nerd to know what isn't) @ £478. Within the next couple of months Vesuvius will be undergoing some quite serious heart surgery at BR, at that point I'll need to notify Admiral of the changes, I'll see how reasonable they are at that time, maybe that'll be the time to switch,,,thanks again. smile

Bob, if you are looking at BR mods, a main stream like Admiral may not be interested anymore. I would look at Hiscox or Locktons seriously... Classic Line also I understand. They are not interested in charging extra for mods smile

There's a lot of crap being spouted by experienced PHers here about insurance.

Admiral have been asked the question once and have been found to be fine.

I am sitting in a villa now that has paid top Euro for its insurance only to be rejected on a technicality on a recent claim.

People should know better than to let personal bias enter the equation when talking about insurance.

Speaking from personal experience and not generalising, Admiral were very poor.

1. they tried to insist the car had to go to their own repairer whom I'd never heard of. If I had not known you state where the car is repaired then Joe Bloggs would have done it.

2. they said I could not have a courtesy car as I had chosen an AM dealer who was not on their list.

3. when the repairs dragged on they refused to contact the dealer on my behalf.

4. when I was unhappy with the finished result they refused to send their engineer to inspect the car even though they were paying the dealer £6,000.

5, after 7 weeks they finally agreed to let me have a courtesy car. They kindly offered me a Vauxhall Corsa. Eventaully they let me have a C class oil burner.

6. they did pay out the whiplash claim for my partner in very quick time.

7. they refunded me £150 as a gesture of goodwill for the poor service they provided.

8. at renewal time they increased the premium by 50%

I changed to Locktons for a better deal but time will tell should the unthinkable happen.

Oh and nearly forgot, that is a very nice new car. Lovely.

Not very good that the client has to find that out IMHO
Was a high end Fezza, Pork, Bentley, Aston approved place. Could have asked to go to Aston Works, didn't see the point at the time. lesson learned. But Admiral will let you take it to your chosen garage - as all Insurance companies have to - but don't like admitting.
Thought you didn't do car insurance? smile

Glad you've had a positive outcome! Simon at WS was very helpful when mine ended up there a while ago (although mine survived the ordeal!).

Slightly OT but we use Hiscox for our home insurance but they told us they don't do cars! How did you manage to get them to insure yours?!

Same here. I've had building and contents insurance with Hiscox for years. When I asked in March at car insurance renewal time they said they do not do car insurance.

Pearl looks beautiful, fantastic news that it got sorted so quickly. Would it be in poor taste to ask to see a picture of Purdey post accident?

Rob/Molly, sorry to hear of the sad demise of Purdey (I've been out of action so not had a chance to catch up on the forums) BUT many congratulations on her replacement Pearl, she looks a stunner.
I might try and get over the Area 5 meet next month if she is going to be there (hopefully run in and enhanced)

Meaning that there are hundreds of quite bright people on this forum using Admiral without issue.

If Y100 were to pay attention to scare stories on an internet forum the last car he would be buying would be an Aston Martin.

You are correct to state that at modification time he should reappraise the situation to see if Admiral still fulfill his needs.

Sorry to hear Purdey is no more, but Pearl looks fantastic, congratulations! Hope to see her at Brands Hatch on the Sunday, if you're going.

Has SiL asked to borrow her yet? smile
