Not sure about Donnington but I believe Silverstone are extremely strict with their noise limits. We were very lucky that Rockingham were very amenable; Silverstone won't be!What sort of numbers were people getting when noise tested? Mine had valves closed so not relevant.

Err,,,I thought you were aware Dave, I have already contacted Silverstone. Dave, I've been waiting for Rockingham to happen before pushing Silverstone for more info,,,thought it prudent to see how well the Rockingham day went. I think we agree it went rather well. So far, I have done no more than discuss with Silverstone events guys the principal of our request. They recommended a particular circuit and mentioned they would do their best to be 'competitive' on price. They have got some work to do to beat Rockingham for the service they gave us but I'll see what Silverstone can offer and be back with that info asap.
I've asked for them for some dates, a Friday, late September or early October.

In terms of; facilities, central location, cost, noise restrictions, food and drink and simple good old fashioned friendliness, I think Rockingham would be hard to beat. If Silverstone doesn't work out for whatever reason, I'd certainly go there again Castle Combe are one of the strictest circuits for noise in the UK
Anyone thought about Goodwood? I could have a word down there, they're used to Astons...

The actual footage quality is pure HD and superb. This is a little grainy as I wanted to get the file size down so doesn't really represent how good the GoPro Hero 3+ is.
Thank you for posting your video.
I have previously heard good comments about the GoPro. The location where yours was mounted is just right for me, but how do you do that? If you have time I would be grateful for an explanation. Perhaps you used a sucker on the rear window.
Oh, and I was amused by seeing your daughter holding a telephone, whilst lapping the circuit. Would that be confirmation of the young generation, always in contact with something called social media, even whilst cornering at 100 mph?
So cool

Great meeting you all - and what a spectacular day it was !
If you would like me to get you some info on Castle Combe just let me know - it is a lot cheaper than either Silverstone or Donington.

I think the noise limit question is the important one, we want everyone to be able to attend if they wish, it would be a shame for the 'tinkerers' to have to sit it out .
Personally, I am happy to try another venue - variety being the spice of life, and all that. That's not to say, as others have posted already, a return to Rockingham would be just as good, given the job they did yesterday.
Just a 'Heads Up' for everyone.
On my last run a rear wheel came loose and it was only for fortuitous that we decided not to do another lap. The vibration I put down to picking up lumps of rubber - wrong! I had torqued the nuts up before I left Wales. On my rally car the service crew have a routine which always includes checking the wheel nuts every time before the car goes out for the next stage.
So guys please get your wheel nuts checked just in case. Whizzing round Rockingham puts much more heat into wheels, hubs etc. and things do work loose.

It was indeed mounted with the GoPro suction mount at the top of the rear window and and was solid as a rock. I connected to the GoPro app on my mobile phone so I could see what the camera saw, adjust the camera settings and start and stop the camera. The raw footage is really high quality but compressing for YouTube diminished it.
As for my daughter, she was snapchatting (whatever that is) although I hope the Rockingham people don't see it as she was not supposed to be holding a phone!

Goodwood are very, very restrictive on noise and numbers of cars on track at one time. I'm not sure that they even do open pit lane days. I did an Octane day there a couple of years ago and, IIRC, there were only 5 cars allowed on track at a time. This meant that you could only manage about 5 laps every hour.yeti said:

Donington run quiet and noisy days. 98db quiet and unsilenced the rest of the time. Ridiculous since it's right next to the airport and you can't hear anything when a plane goes overhead! What sort of numbers were people getting when noise tested? Mine had valves closed so not relevant.
I'd definitely be up for a Donington one, such a good flowing track. Silverstone is utter wk, so flat and boring, not to mention overpriced.
