Mikey, the pictures so not do it justice. Having been very lucky to see it in the flesh it is fantastic. Everything works so well and it looks brilliant. Have faith (mind you I have had a few drinks)

I'm a firm believer that nobody buys Astons for the raw statistics, but I do think some don't buy them because of the stats.

So for what it's worth
Aston V12V coupe 0-200kph (125 mph) 13.8s
Aston V12VS coupe 12.5s
Porsche 991 GT3 10.9s
Ferrari 458 Speciale 9.1s
new Ferrari 488 GTB 8.2s
new McLaren 675 LT 7.9s

One has to assume the new Aston GT3 will not shave more than 1-1.5s off the V12VS - it has barely more power, saves 100kg, the same gearbox and possibly more drag. That will make it c. 11-11.5s

Make of all that what you will and of course, handling is as important as acceleration but I do find the stats interesting

Personally, I pretty much ignore 0-60 times these days as most £100-300k cars have incredibly similar times (c. 3s ish), primarily limited by traction.

It's only a few years since sub 10 second 0-100mph times were considered seriously quick but such has been the rate of gain amongst the other manufacturers, even sub 10 second 0-125mph (200kph) is no longer even close to class leading

It shows in general terms (rather than this very limited run of GT3s) just how far behind in the speed race Aston have fallen - primarily, I assume this to be engine & gearbox tech although I'm sure others with more expertise may be able to expand on that

In the days when I owned an aston v12v it was still a brand synonymous with Elegance.

No longer it seems.

Jonby I think another key factor is weight

you are of course quite right

I assume one of the limiting factors is the weight of a 6 lt. V12 engine compared to the smaller engines in almost every other sportscar these days

I'd love to see the breakdown of weight - engine, wheels/brakes, chassis, body, battery, glass, etc and in turn, see just how much of the weight difference of cars like the Continental & various Astons to say Ferraris & Porsches is down to the luxury interiors

That would be very interesting
You'll never get it smile
So we'll have to make do with power to weight ratio

Good launch control helps to skew the 0-60/100 mph figures as well.

And round the track ...A good driver in an Audi will beat an average driver in an Aston...iirc

Re power to weight. I would mess that up for any car!

I've gone for skyfall silver, white graphics pack and pretty much avoided the Q work, save the carbon fibre meteorite stripe on the side. Tiny splash of colour with the brake calipers as the orange (California Poppy!) does seem to be the colour they are trying to associate with the GT3.

Understand completely some of the reluctance to embrace what AM are trying to with the GT3, but sod it, I can't wait and if the front splitter has a run in or two with speed bumps then I'll just have to find different routes to drive on!

Sounds like a fantastic choice and the right attitude to consumables biggrin

Congratulations on a fantastic car. We look forward to seeing it in the flesh/metal/CF!!!

When do you take delivery????

Edited to add: the route you are looking for is the one to my house. No speed bumps!

Cup of tea guaranteed on arrival! wink

Will definitely put pics up when the time comes!

Just waiting to hear whether it'll be in the first group of 50 (end of this year) or second group (beginning of next).

Have a PDC in a V12VS booked in in May, hopefully that'll help bridge the gap between my current '05 DB9 (loyal companion since '05!) and the GT3 when it's ready!

That's a decent wait. Will be worth it, I am sure. Nice to see you keep your cars for a while. That's going to be quite a different experience going from the DB to the GT3. Have you seen, heard, sat in, experienced one yet?

Cracking choice and being in London I am sure i will hear it before you post the pics smile

Sounds like it is going to be fantastic. Congratulations and don't worry the car will be here before you know it.

Had the showaround with the car in the pics at Gaydon (including the engine start).

As you say, bit of a wait, but I'm hoping the time can be filled with the odd visit or three to see how it's coming along. Not sure if that is what happens, anyone experience seeing their own spec'd car in various states of production?

typically one visit, timed hopefully to see the marriage of chassis and body. then if pos they will send the odd photo as it continues it's journey down the line. Once there's something to see of substance on the line, it isn't actually that many days until completion

PS Meant to say the car sounds fab - I may be a little disappointed with final specs of GT3 from a factory perspective but that does;t mean it won't be a fab car in it;s own right and I;m sure you'll love it
