Db9 back box removal
Discussion
Tomorrow I am planning on having the exhaust back box on my db9 removed and replaced with straight pipes. I was wondering has anyone heard of this been done or Seen it for themselves as I would like to know what sort of difference it would make as I am worried it may be too loud, although it must sound awesome
Are you on about the rear silencer? If so i would think it would bring up all sorts of dramas and correct me if im wrong but guaranteed MOT failure if you have not gone deaf beforehand. Change it for a different type of back box like Quicksilver etc but replace with straight pipes?? hmmmmm??

Can't speak for MOT failure, but a DB9 with straight pipes won't be all that loud. QS Supersport Plus is straight pipes anyway, there's no perf in the box so this won't really be much if any louder. Might be a little harsher, but it's not going to be crazy loud.OP, I'd be really keen to know how this sounds. I'm thinking of having straight pipes fitted to my V12V. I already have a secondary decat but the reason I haven't gone for straight pipes is fear of it resonating through the cabin.
My ideal upgrade would be the BR primary cat removal but at £3600 it's a little too expensive. Straight pipes eliminating the rear silencer can be had for £400. Way cheaper than QS.

removing boxes can make a car louder but it changes the tone of the exhaust and can make it sound chavvy not F1 if thats your aim. it can also change back pressure that the car is reliant on with its current tune
using boxes like QS that are tuned to make it louder yet still give that supercar exotic sound are the way to go.

Good man! We need pictures, and a video.
Today I had the work carried out on the car and I must say to anyone who's thinking about it do not hesitate to do so its the best 300 quid ive spent in a long time! It's completely transformed the car it still has the v12 rattle but when you let off the accelerator if just rumbles away nicely. I will try get some videos up when I have chance and photos also.if you have Any question just ask and I will get back to you when I can
I came across this post when considering the rear box removal.
Db9 manual volante 2006.
I’ve done the job and it has improved the throttle response from standing start. I had issues with having to give loads of right foot as the car would stall.
The exhaust rubber mounts right at the back were impossible to get off without cutting them. Landrover stock part (lookalikes on eBay).
Had Mot today , straight through and no warning lights on dash.
It’s a little louder than the bypass and more sharp in tone.
I think it’s spot on but I guess the purests would hate it!

Hi v12 Durk,I had an my 09 db9 and I deleted the secondary cats, installed an x pipe and had the tech cut the top off the standard exhaust and he re routed some of the pipes inside to make it more direct. This way it retained the standard rear box but improved its sound immensely and it wasn"t harsh just healthy and easy to live with.
There was no issue with check engine lights etc. The car seemed to breath better and did seem a little more responsive. It wasnt at a big cost either.

This sounds interesting as presumably the exhaust bypass valve functionality was retained?I had an my 09 db9 and I deleted the secondary cats, installed an x pipe and had the tech cut the top off the standard exhaust and he re routed some of the pipes inside to make it more direct. Was the car 'normal' with valves closed and then much louder only with valves open? Would be interested to hear what your chap did
