LED Lights failed Again!
Discussion
My v8v has the standard rear light led failure. Followed the instructions on here to split it and looked in bemusement at the internals.......
The one thing I did recognise was the circuits looked like a modern TV so went to my local repair centre. Tested it and found 2 led drivers are dead and are replacing them. Think Labour is 50 odd and parts the same. If it works I'll let you all know. Result if it does!
To join it back I'll use windscreen sealant..

Tail light back from TV repair man and they work! He replaced diodes and led drivers as they'd burnt out....
Just go to stick em back together with a little goretex membrane covering a hole I will drill in to the back. Should aid getting rid of moisture build up....
Does anyone know how to get the reverse bulb out? Might as well whilst it's apart

No, it does not require a lot of soldering. In fact that part is relatively easy considering it involves soldering a surface mount component for which you are supposed to use a specific tool. However, I found a way to do it with a standard station.
No the real pain is in taking the unit out of the car and of course in taking off the clear lens without breaking it.
I have written a full tutorial with lots of pictures and explanation. However it is in French. I do not have enough time at the moment but I will certainly translate it one day.
best regards,
eddie
Hi Eddy is there a link anywhere to your tutorial? also do those White LED's change to Amber for the indicator ?No the real pain is in taking the unit out of the car and of course in taking off the clear lens without breaking it.

I assume you already have some for the repair but this is the stuff to stick the lights back together with:

Salut, les phares peuvent être séparés pour accéder aux éléments LED. Je crois qu'il y a des bandes de LED et d'unités de pilote qui auront probablement besoin d'être réparées. Un bon réparateur de téléviseurs peut vous aider. L'ouverture du phare semble être le principal problème dans le processus de réparation. Après cela, occupez-vous d'un fer à souder et remontez avec un scellant de bonne qualité.
Hi, the headlight units can be separated to access the LED elements. I believe there are strips of LEDs and Driver Units which are likely to need repair. A good TV repair man can help. Opening the headlight seems to be the main problem in the repair process. After that, get busy with a soldering iron and reassemble with some good quality sealant.
