there is apparently a roumor saying the Viridian green GT8 is owned by Hamilton's dad?

I think is a very positive news about one being allocated to Darren Turner (shame he chose the plate I would have chosen for mine, though!)
I was chatting with him at last summer's Festival of Speed about our incoming GT8s and that would tie in.

My money is still on Darren's car being in the halo paint scheme (albeit that might feel a bit too much like being at work for him) smile

I think that's a reasonable price in comparison to other cars that have sold / been for sale. It has the carbon roof and is in quite a nice, individual colour scheme. All the ones around the £250k mark (apart from Romans' orange car) have sold quite quickly. I do wonder if this will settle as the market price going forwards.

If any of those early cars sold at circa £300k, I feel sorry for the buyers... and the sellers should be ashamed of themselves.

It is sad that across all the sales platforms there are over a dozen seemingly for sale! Our of 40! Drive them people FFS...
A dozen for sale with another dozen sellers waiting in the wings ready to sell! Really is a shame as it is a cracking car to drive and starts feeling so much more special the more miles you put on it.

So much for Astons ban on dealers selling them so soon after delivery. It looks like every AM dealer will have one for sale soon enough! lol

Unfortunately that appears to be the case. I think AML have tightened up their procedure now for "specials" so that it's not just complete strangers to the marque coming in and putting a deposit down with a view to flipping (most of the cars bought in launch colours)

But flipping doesn't explain all of the cars for sale. I wonder whether many new owners are put off by the need to use a manual gearbox again?

Still I guess what should happen here is that we'll have a period of flux for 12 months as the cars find homes with collectors, fans of the marque etc and then it will settle down

I think the issue is that it is not a track car per se. I might be positioned as one but it is "track inspired" rather than built for the track. For once it is too expensive for being used a lot on the track. Secondly it is too loud. Thirdly, it is probably a little bit too exquisite. I like it but for the track I would always prefer my GT3 RS.

Bit of a shame really. If I had the money I would buy a GT8, and track it as much as possible. Getting on for my perfect car, tbh.
Probably cheaper (& better) to buy an early V8V & get one of the indies to convert it to race spec for you?!

I always seen the GT8 way closer in spirit to a 911R, rather than a 911 GT3RS.

GT8/911R, at the end of the day, are both, usable, highly collectable Drivers' cars for the Road (first and foremost), but also track-capable (way more than their "basic" derivatives).

I don't consider a 911 GT3RS to be "collectable" (the production numbers are huge in comparison). Also, I feel is more a Track-focused than a Road-car

A GT8 isn't expensive, mine has cost me approximately minus £30k to own so far smile

Nowhere near the cheapest car I've ever owned though; that was my DB5....

And the most expensive has to be my Discovery circa £30k over 3 years ouch! Hate cars that depreciate smile

Now if I bought a used V8V 4.7 and got it upgraded to track spec (sorely tempting) I'm guessing I would be in for £70k all-in and it would be hard to sell it afterwards at more than half of that. Would be a lot of fun though biggrin

Rob,
I note that you've taken 'Man maths' to new levels? biggrin

I bet a high mileage 4.3/Cat D as a donor would be very much cheaper?! & you're right it would be a hoot!! biggrin

You will be surprised regarding pure racing cars. I friend of mine races in the Lamborghini Blancpain Series. He has 3 Lamborghini GT3 cars (Huracan and Galardo) and none of these have lost any money (despite having been in the armco I don't know how many times).

The 991 GT3 RS is a track tool and not really a collectors item. Porsche has produced more than 8000 of them. I track my GT3 RS regularly and it is a better car after a track day. The GT8 is I think a piece of automotive art and we might see one or two on the track but they are not built for that. Also as mentioned, the noise is far too loud and it weighs far too much.

Best investment ever: My DB4 ... and worst ... my DB9. My Discovery 4 is not too bad. (9 years on and still going strong with no major bills - yet).

With the money these are fetching now, if you truly wanted an aston to track, you could pick up a factory GT3 car.

Absolutely amazing! Would love someone to make a video with a GT12/8/vulcan and then an out and out race car.

Chris Harris has already done the GT12 at the N24 (should be on YouTube, it's a lovely video if you get a chance to watch it).

I'm not sure if there are any videos of the various GT8 race entries (N24 -all set to win its class before it had some misfortune, Bathurst with Darren Turner etc)

I'm not aware of a Vulcan entering a "race" as such but plenty of videos of them being tracked (including on Top Gear)

No I mean a back to back comparison of a GT3 race car with the LIMITED EDITION SUPER DUPER track cars like the GT8 smile I watched Harris' videos but he never had a full on racer for comparison iirc?

I'd like to see a GT3RS go toe to toe with a proper GT race 911 too.

Just so we're not crossing wires here - the video I'm referring to is not his review of the gt 12 but the one where it was entered in the n24 (up against gt3 cars etc). You've seen that one? It's a great advert for the gt12

And in the interim here's a picture of a well know PH'er at Spa in his GT8 recently
