Seeing a Spitfire aircraft flying and hearing the distinctive sound of the Merlin engine, used to be a rare and very special occasion.

I now experience this several times every day. I understand that new airframes are being built, which allow joyride planes to be be flown in the skies of Kent, from Biggie Hill. Unfortunately what was special, has now become commonplace.
First world problems....

I remember that the Spitfire had the reputation for being a bit of a girly car whereas the MGB ( I had one in the 60's ) was butch.

Can it be had as a manual?

Am I the only who totally non-plussed by this ?????

Am I missing something, I'm a bit stumped on the Aston Martin/Spitfire connection, sorry guys but to me, as nice as the car is, this is just another one of these "limited edition" gimmicks to shift a few more cars.

Ready to be shot down in flames (pun intended !!!! )

Would you feel better, if Q took out the V12 and then installed a Merlin engine complete with the open exhaust for each cylinder.

It would certainly not be a limited edition gimmick then.

Love the colour and the all the trim bits, but not sure anybody will actually order the goggles and jacket and cant help thinking a V8 might sound more like a Merlin engine than the V12 does? Plus if I was buying one I couldn't help drawing the conclusion that it would be me making the £5000 donation to the RAF and not AM Cambridge as promoted!

Aside from the car/spec I'm somewhat miffed to find out that these cars can be ordered with the dogleg manual and are being delivered on 18th October. I confirmed my order for a dogleg V12VS on the day it was announced and was told I had one of the very first production slots scheduled for June-July. I was told last week that this has now slipped to October so reading this I can't help but think that this is because other more profitable cars such as these have been prioritised over mine. irkedmad

I think the explanation Adam, must be to do with numbers.
Perhaps more biggest order, than first with the cheque book.

I doubt your order Adam can have been delayed from June/July to October by this; they haven't sold them yet and presumably buyers will want to tweak a little. So can't believe they're not the production line today

So suspect there's some other factor at work.

Im sure it will be worth the wait in the end! smile

Duxford is just 5 miles away from AM Cambridge so there is a local connection. Spitfires fly over the dealership every day in the summer months. It was the first operational Spitfire base in the RAF. Aston Martin have many links to aviation in their history including building parts & engines. Victor Gauntlett, former owner of AM owned a Spitfire. The V12 Vantage S has a large capacity, normally aspirated engine in a light aluminium frame, just like the Spitfire. The event cost and donation stretch well into 6 figures and we have had to build this into the cost along with a huge amount of Q content. A normal spec V12 Vantage S Coupe retails at around £160k. At £180k the car & package is great value and everything on the spec, including the accessories is included so no need to pay extra for a jacket. You get one anyway. All part of the FUN. The delivery time is being driven by the event as the Spitfires stop flying in November and do not resume until April. A lot of creative people have put a lot of thought and effort into this project AND there is actually a good cause being supported here so it would be great if the forum could support it too? Its easy to be cynical and of course its about selling cars, that is what keeps AM and its dealers in business, but maybe AM Cambridge are just a good bunch of people trying to do something different?
