Dunkirk - Christopher Nolan film
Discussion
Christopher Nolan?
Really? Seems an odd choice.
I see that Harry Styles is in it.......so I can safely presume that he has also found a part for his cousin again too?
The story has already been told. Plenty of other WW2 actions that deserve recognition, whose stories have so far remain untold.
The Battle of Kohima would be a suitable candidate, for example.

Agree about Kohima/Imphal.Astonishing story which would translate well to a full-length feature film. I don't think there's ever been one, even from the 50s/60s. Indeed I can only recall that Errol Flynn thing - Objective Burma, and that was about the jungle war rather than the battle for the Indian NE territory. Maybe Hollywood thinks what really happened would be considered beyond belief.Really? Seems an odd choice.

I believe that there was much interference by both the UK & US governments after the war with regards to painting Japan in a good light, as it was effectively a protectorate of the US, and China & the Soviet Union (Communism) were the new enemy. So the media was very much discouraged from producing films and books about the war in the far East. Most of the films such as Objective Burma were all made during the war.TEKNOPUG said:

I like most of Nolan's stuff (Interstellar went a bit too weird for me at the end and Inception looked like a level from COD:MW2 in parts), so I'll be interested to see his take on a WW2 film, personally.

Christian Bale did a WW2 film set in China during Japan invasion/occupation. Probably about 10 years ago now.
Empire of the Sun? 29 years ago.......As for all the complaints about overdone stories, how many Dunkirk films have there been....? Plenty for D-Day, I can't think of any off the top of my head about Dunkirk since.... erm.... Dunkirk.... which was fifty eight years ago...

I would not have though it a very popular event to make people want to see it. Oh look the Germans are giving our chaps a bloody nose, retreat, retreat. Cotty said:

Atonement springs to mind, which had the epic 5 minute tracking shot. Edited by RedLeicester on Friday 5th August 15:38
