Looks like there was a mishap at the launch event.

Hopefully everyone is ok.

It was not one of the Spitfire AM's but a white Vantage from Jardines
I was passing the aerodrome just as Manchetts (local recovery agent) were removing the car with the front all covered in a blue tarpaulin.
Another report commented that the driver left the car unaided but the passenger was extricated and that he was Duxford's ATC and that they were on an initial recce.

Anyone know what happened, exactly regarding the cause of the accodent?
Driver was a pro, apparently, but i dont see details of how he lost the car (in such a relatively safe environment). Im not casting aspersions, just wonder if there were other factors involved, and the specifics of the incident arent being reported.

Why exactly would you want to know the specifics Driver was a pro, apparently, but i dont see details of how he lost the car (in such a relatively safe environment). Im not casting aspersions, just wonder if there were other factors involved, and the specifics of the incident arent being reported.

Because it's none of their business!!!
Not sure why you're so bent out of shape, chief..Since youre determined to bash shields.. "None of their business"? You could hardly be more wrong..
Press report on events. That is their business.
This, a media event, presumably had numerous press folk in attendance.
The rest is trivially obvious.
This incident was, obviously, not within the expected manifest for the day.. but if our press only reported what the powers that be approved, the world would be a dark place, indeed.
Honestly, its much stranger not to wonder what happened, in my view.
From the experience that someone I know had when checking out the runway at Duxford prior to TVR using it for their Mania experience, he was lucky and just covered a long distance on the grass at the end of the runway with no damage or injury.
I would suggest that as the runway has no real reference points for braking combined with a cold damp surface and a V12S on Corsa tyres it would be easy to get it wrong when showing the cars capabilities.
Hope the person from Duxford makes a full and swift recovery.

Had my biggest 'moment' the other morning.
Probably going a little too quickly for the cold damp morning, dropped into 5th at about 69mph (!) to over take and lost the back end in a rather big way, thankfully I just managed to hold onto it. Corsa's are down to 3mm which probably didn't help (new ones being fitted next week).
These cars can bite and things happen very quickly.

Glad to hear that you kept control.
I always keep the electronic 'gubbins' switched on with my car.
I don't know how you prefer to set your ESP, but just interested to know whether you think the electronics can assist in the circumstances that you describe?
When I experience the electronics activating, there is a brief jolt when tyre grip is lost, and then normality returns.

Everything was turned on.
It let go in a split second, aggressively pushing the back end to the right towards the central reservation (I presume down to camber).
TC light flashing it cut the power just in time for me to pull it straight. Not a pleasant experience. Convinced I was about to spin.
Just every now and again we need a 'warning' to keep us in check eh.
Michael Schumacher I am not.

Had a very similar experience just a few days back. I was really surprised at how 'aggressive' the ESP corrected the back end. Dont fit Corsas now. Winter is the time for standard P Zero's.
The difference is night and day.
Or Pirelli Sottozero's which is the approved AML winter tyre for the V12 Vantage/V12 Vantage S.The difference is night and day.
@northernmedia: Did you have the Sport button on? I never drive in Sport mode in the wet, the throttle is much more sensitive which is nice in the dry but not so in the wet as I experienced going sideways on the motorway while it rained.
I am normally careful in the wet but had a similar scare two weeks ago on the autobahn from Berlin to Lübeck....was a bit damp and doing about 100, normally keep the car in 6th to minimise the chance or wheel spin, etc. when doing speed in the damp. But this guy was taking a long time to get out of the fast lane and so when he did, dropped it a gear or two...next thing starting to go sideways.
Foot off the power, or the electronics kicked in (I suspect it was the electronics as I'm not that good as demonstrated by the fact it was starting to go sideways in the first place) and it righted itself...to say the wife sat next to me and the Armco was not very pleased is an understatement...has happened before but seems I have the memory of a goldfish.
