This is crazy, they show a graph with high numbers detected (700 or so in brum) but the prosecution rate is more of less zero! Why isn't every single case discovered then prosecuted?

Well, I know that answer, as I guess we all do, but it still makes me angry.

Why do you think there have been zero prosecutions out of what seems to be 700 serious offences?

"What we're finding now is that where once girls were taken abroad to be cut, specialist midwives are now flown over and several girls are cut at the same time, which then leads to a celebration."
This type of thing makes me want to stop the world and get off it really does. What kind of twisted culture thinks this kind of thing is desirable and celebrates the mutilation of young girls?

The chart showing the number of victims is shocking, why on earth are we not hearing about more prosecutions?

I'd say because it's hard to get evidence as to who actually carried out the offence? Are the girls able to confirm exactly which woman did it to her?

it won't be because they don't want to offend Muslims as FGM happens in other religions too..

Actually I think I do know the answer smile.

You need to look at the Government NHS reporting requirements on FGM.

Doctors are now required to report any potential evidence of FGM on a patient no matter when it occurred. So if a Doctor examines a woman say in her 80 and there is some evidence but the injuries, if they are FGM, are from youth before she entered the UK, it still gets reported.

Not unnaturally there has been a sharp rise in reported cases.

Absolutely disgusting and it certainly needs highlighting, even so one has to questions Del Mars motives.

Nothing posted in the Football abuse or Forest Hill train stabbing, if either of these were Muslim those threads would be on 50 pages.

- A lack of reporting.
- A lack of confidence by the relevant communities in the police.
- A following on from the above, a lack of information / intelligence coming to the police.
- A lack of experience within the police.
- A lack of experience within the NHS and other sectors (education / social / health etc).

The offence dates may also be relevant in terms of the data as someone has reported.

I think it's going to take a lot of work and time to get to a position where this becomes a near non-existent matter in the UK.

I am aware the Met have sent a few files to the CPS on the matter. The first questionable prosecution resulted in a Doctor being acquitted within 30 minutes of jury deliberation.

If the girls are under age, can't they prosecute the parents?

Can't be too hard a concept as they do lots of folk who want to take their kids on holiday when it's a bit cheaper.

To be fair, I'm not a fan of neither but circumcising doesn't cause much harm (arguably none at all) FGM clearly causes lots and lots of harm.

I think you're both aware of this though, so I'm not sure why you're making the point.

Maybe because the OP posted with glee rather any really concern for the people affected.
