Considering leaving Aston...
Discussion
Fully appreciate the GT8 isn't everyone's cup of tea. But it's a "special" so isn't representative of the marque, the underlying Vantage is clearly beautiful whether or not you like variant
But with the greatest respect to The Surveyor, have a look at the lovely photos from the North-East Cup of Tea outing and tell me the 570s is not the ugly sister in those pictures? An ugly sister with a pair of fast runnning shoes, true, but I'd find it hard to swap a Cinderella for it nonetheless
All of course entirely my own opinion, clearly others can and do disagree ( but you're all wrong!)

Wow, 5 posts in 103 minutes about how you find the 570 ugly...you must have it bad!!
I'll disagree with you 100%. Since moving from the V12VS into the 540 (yes I know cheaper version of 570 but they look almost identical) it has had more positive comments about its looks than the Vantage ever had. In fact I was no where near prepared for the way this car is received by Joe Public. No car I have owned has received such a positive reaction from people that have stopped to talk to me and admire (the looks) of the car. I've been followed by phone videoing folks and lost count of the thumbs up from other drivers.
I of course think the car looks magnificent and that rear is spectacular. I was thinking about returning to AM for the new Vantage but the way this McLaren drives, its presence, the sheer joy I'm having I wont be looking past the McLaren range for my next buy.
As you say each to their own and thank goodness for that or the world would be a pretty boring place. I still think Aston's look fabulous with the DBS amongst the prettiest cars I have seen. But for you to suggest throwing up at the sight of a 570 may I humbly suggest you are very much in the minority of folk...given what I've experienced since owning a Mac. I loved my AM's but this McLaren has really got under my skin, as you can probably tell!!
Just my 2p's worth.

That's cool, I know lots disagree with me or else they wouldn't buy them. And as I've said often enough elsewhere it would be dull if all liked/dis-liked the same things
It will be interesting to see how well the McLaren designs age though.
And don't get me wrong I don't dislike all McLarens, the F1 is a thing of beauty but of course from a different design ethos/era!

We have not yet seen the rear of the next Vantage yet.
The visible lower part certainly looks McLaren-ish.
Could perhaps the upper part look similar too?
It is the modern look - so I am told.

looks are very subjective and a neighbour did say that it looked like I'd sold a pair of brogues and bought a pair of Nikes when I replaced the Vantage for the 570s. I would say the 570s is 'dramatic' rather than ugly, but it's certainly not pretty like the Vantage. It's jolly fast though and remarkably, a much better ride than the Aston was. Back to back trips to Le Mans proved that with the added bonus of 35.9mpg against 22mpg from the Aston with a great big dollop of added 'fun'.
The Vantage is one of the all-time most beautiful cars, on looks it's an impossible act to follow.....

Jeez 35.9mpg?? I can't do that in the diesel XF!
I guess this is why Turbo's are going to become the norm
35.9 mpg was for the run down to Portsmouth from Newcastle against 22mpg for a similar motorway trip. Overall we got 29.5mpg for the 1,200 mile trip against 19mpg in the Vantage for the same run in 2016. Includes some spirited runs in Northern France as well as motorway slogs. As you say, it's the turbos, they give 561bhp against the Vantages 380bhp which makes the difference between an epic sports car that's a good GT, and a good GT.I guess this is why Turbo's are going to become the norm

Now you've got me worried Jon, albeit if that is indeed the case it should only serve to increase the desirability of current models (think DB6 with its Kamm tail, all in the aid of aerodynamics, vs the beauty of the DB5)
Anyway best get on with some work

Yes, I agree with you Rob.
Am sure you spotted the hint of tease in my comment.
To back up my opinion, my keeper 4.7 is the model with the original Vantage bodywork. Unaltered and no sticky out bits.
Exactly as Mr. Callum intended (I know it was Mr. Fisker who took the praise).

We buy six figure cars, then discuss fuel consumption.
Beware - The men in white coats will be round, with their anti-irrational jackets.
Although not necessarily a deal breaker, fuel consumption is a factor for me.Beware - The men in white coats will be round, with their anti-irrational jackets.
Just because one has a spare few quids doesn't mean one has to be profligate.
Other factors that irritate me in my DB9V,in theory a 4seater GT are, very tight rear seat space, lack of boot luggage space, useful interior lockers, average sat nav.
Of course one puts up with this as the car is aesthetically beautiful and maybe that's enough.

I get someone wanting to scratch an itch with a Lamborghini, but the McLaren 570 is just a teensy weensie bit well..., ugly
I mean I get it; the design is all about aerodynamics but....not for me
I quite like the McLaren design,a bit in your face maybe, but it is brutally attractive rather than pretty.I mean I get it; the design is all about aerodynamics but....not for me

Despite the seat belts I'm not sure you can ever consider them to be seats, in which case the luggage space is sorted?! avinalarf said:

Definitely enough for me! Perhaps I've been drinking too much of the AML Kool aid? avinalarf said:

We are being far too serious this morning Steven.
Beautiful weather, coffee break time, before going back to my garage for engine assembly (not the Aston).
On fuel consumption, I feel the motor industry want customers to keep thinking about fuel consumption.
Reason - they don't want anybody to think about depreciation.
Buy an average new car, and the buyer spends £10,000 on depreciation in 3 years, most premium cars far more.
The previous owners of my Aston Martin spent £50,000 in 3 years on depreciation.
We probably would have to do a very high mileage, to spend more on fuel than depreciation, so if a motorist wants to reduce costs, it is clear what to consider first.
