don't what the "rare earth" problem is nor quite what you mean by "traction and engine" however the suggestion from Tesla that their roadster will out accelerate an F1 car to 100 mph seems incredible. I will look on with interest to see how they will get traction from the tyres to achieve that with a car presumably weighing over a ton and a half. Has the Tesla actually achieved that or is it Elon Musk hype...
REs are alloyed to iron alloys in the production of electric motors. Greatly enhances magnetic flux density. I.e. higher the MFD, smaller and lighter the motor can be. Or to put it another way, cost of motors could be magnitudes higher is a) China controls 90-95% of the worlds RE resources and b) REs are historically produced at approx 20,000mt per year. Make everything electric powered or driven and demand goes exponential. Thus, no REs, motors become huge, and will need traction engines to carry them. Everyone talks of lithium (inexhaustible supply) for batteries and engineering/technology will overcome that someday. Magnetic flux density in a compact, low mass form......well I’m not sure what there is at present that beats RE magnets.

I didn't know that, I'll have to go and Google them! Do electric trains have them in their motors or are they exclusive to lightweight/expensive applications? The more i see the new Vantage the more it looks Japanese..
Ouch! Right on the mark, but the ultimate insult IMO.AML is stepping on thin ice, should the new design not grow to the customer base: The new Vantage had better live up to its performance promise (“Ferrari, Porsche, ... move aside, Aston Martin is back”). In case the 911 and other competitors should still be way ahead in terms of performance, there will not so many reasons be left to buy an expensive new Vantage. This was not such a big problem with the outgoing generation of cars: Any car lover or motor journalist was instantly ready to friendly overlook the purported performance shortcomings of the V8 Vantage because it was such an achingly beautiful, “timeless” and likeable machine. That used to be a certain privilege of the marque. How many hundreds of posts have you been writing about being so proud of “being let in at junctions”? We will see how this works out with the new aggressiveness.
I hope well because I am an enthusiast and wish the marque well. This is no slagging down, but fair critique.
P.S.: All this Tesla talk here ..... Can´t you open a new thread? At least the new Vantage has got Tesla headlights. Isn´t this something!?
The new Vantage front and back end is just wrong. I'd planned on changing my 2010 for the new one at some point, but can't live with the aggressive/aftermarket look. What I want is classic British understatement and beauty. An Aston should look good first. I don't care if it's 8/10ths the performance of a 911 or R8 (Having owned both, which left me cold). I want a piece of furniture for the drive.
I thought us Brits were good at design. First TVR, now this!
I'll be keeping my 2010. See what Bentley comes up with.

As I have said I wish A M all the success in the world,
But this forum is a large customer base be it with brand new or second hand customers which are equally as valuable to them, the new customer buys from them and the second hand customer allows the new purchase to be traded keeping good residuals and allowing the first customer to purchase again, and also through parts etc down the line .
I don’t expect them to change their design but as has been said a grill option could make sense
I would rather hear what my customers think and trying to do something about it rather than hearing nothing and them voting with their feet. To have a forum dedicated to your brand is something dreams and maybe nightmares are made of as these are our views which haven’t come from leading questions or been paid to say what we think
I wonder how many different people have taken the time to post on the topic - I for one have seen a lot of usernames not seen before or not posting regularly
I think once you have caught the AM bug and it’s under your skin you genuinely care for the brand and the reasons a lot of us caught the bug was because of the Britishness

Nice work, looks much better. Hopefully someone from Aston is watching.
Why? Because they’ll change their fully developed, released to the world sports car because a group of Aston luddites on a depressing forum don’t like it?Beefmeister raises a very Interesting point.
Possibly, and this is purely a guess, that the change to a more 'shouty style' of design, and even the launch colour of the new Vantage, are signals that this car is aimed to attract the attention of Lamborghini enthusiasts.
Now, what car does Beefmeister like ?

Quite interesting seeing the feedback here - I like it in general except the front like many others it seems! Don’t you think though that even though the model has to make a lot of impact on launch, there must be an element of ‘blank canvas’ in the design - something held back that can be developed during the lifetime of the model to try and differentiate future versions of basically the same thing. Think how much better (imo) the V12V looked compared to the original release model of the V8V. If this model evolves to that degree then I’m optimistic!
I agree, but there is one problem the original V8 car was beautiful when it arrived , the V12 just made it better .cayman-black said:

They should be the same price, positioned differently in the market. To me the new Vantage is for those who bought the GT8, or aspire to. In the past the DB9 and Vantage played to the same theme with slight variation.
The Vantage ( at least until the V12) as the entry level model, the DB9 next up the line.
Now it's more of a taste thing - track/performance = Vantage
Gentleman style with agility = DB11 V8
Full GT luxury = DB11 V12
Maybe they should have changed the Vantage name to distance it from the style and heritage of the loved older model?
This is supported by the price structure as a Vantage with a few spec items sits at the V8 DB11 range, which has a bit more spec to start .
