To dbs2000.

Going off topic briefly.

I recently looked on the Aston Martin Pre-owned listing for Netherlands, All models.
It showed hardly any cars. Then when I looked at one of the dealer websites, there were lots of Aston Martins for sale, both moderns and historics.

Most odd. Do you have any ideas David?

According to the AM site, we have 2 official dealers over here; Cito (which I use) and Hilversum (no experience of). Neither have very much stock, the price of V12 AM's over here was absolutely insane but is improving with the new V8 and V12 turbo engines but I've still not seen a DB11 out in the wild.

Which dealer did you look at? Generally there are very few AM's for sale over here. A lot of websites tend to include Belgium and Germany.

I think it was Hilversum. I now understand, that if they perhaps have other dealer locations, their own website may include cars at all their sites.
Their website shows a picture of smart bespoke Aston Martin premises. Seems odd then from a business perspective, only to have one used car shown on the Pre-owned listing. There are only two used cars for Netherlands, but as you have explained, it is the high prices (tax presumably).

I've noticed a lot of their car prices say "excluding BPM" - which to me suggests that the car isn't based over here. BPM is the killer tax on thirsty cars.

This all sounds very difficult for AML in the Netherlands.

My view is that governments introduce these types of taxes, primarily as vote winners. It is such a 'broad brush' way of trying to solve a problem. My own Aston Martin, as I am sure many are, is certainly not a 'gas-guzzler'. It consumed far less fuel last year, than any of my other family cars.

In the UK, a logical approach would be to collect 'gas-guzzler' taxes within the total price of fuel. The more you pollute, the more you pay, and fiddling the system becomes impossible compared to the present road taxes. The UK governments have always been opposed to that idea, even though the total tax raised would be increased and with a reduced cost of collection. Not a vote winner though.

Is this tax cut off point in the Netherlands 4 litres, as we have been told is the case in China?

One amusing aspect in the UK, was the introduction of zero cost road tax for low CO2 emitting vehicles.
That was very popular, but later the government discovered that less total tax was being raised. Hardly a surprise, but they then reintroduced road tax for those vehicles. Says it all.

I was chatting with the sales guys and as Brakke says, BPM is the killer. For instance my DBS new would have been 140k of BPM on top of the car, she was 7 when imported so I paid 18k (I think), this figure reduces to a maximum of 90% of the 140k. The last edition Vanquish was just shy of 400k but the new DBS is about 340k on the road because the new engines are more efficient.

I can't remember the new Vantage cost on the road, maybe 230k with the BPM around 40k (note the "I can't remember")

Interestingly electric cars over here were free but I believe that changes this year as well.

All in all, it really stifles the industry over here. A lot of people import 2-5 year old cars from Germany. I have aspirations to spec a new DB11 in the next few years but given the BPM I may have to again buy second hand from Germany /Dubai / ANOther - first world problems I know.

yep

Bought a V12VR 2.5 years ago (2013 model)
BPM to import to NL was still 45K.
I paid approx 150K purchase price from Germany.

Instead I put a 1 year european export license on the car, which allows me to drive it everywhere in EU.
The insurance, license plate etc were 2k.
The drop in BPM in 1 year was 9k.
Go figure...

Holland, the country that truly knows how to f*ck drivers.....

Well you should try to live in Denmark. We pay the basic car price (UK export price) then have to add VAT which is 27% and then we have to add 180% luxury tax on top of the VAT included price. A new Vanquish costs the equivalent of 400k EUR as a result.

No, all cars have a luxury tax added to the base price incl VAT.

We probably don't even know half of what goes on.
Presumably they have picked a product category, which is not manufactured in either country.

Two EU member countries are found to be applying additional taxes, on products from another member country.

Perhaps we could try applying tariffs (sorry a luxury tax), to Danish lager and Dutch horticulture. wink

My god that is terrible and I wince at paying £500 odd a year over here.

And in Singapore....
Singapore has led the ranking of the most expensive countries to buy a car.
Only 15% of the population can afford a car. Some car prices are simply insanely high: A Toyota Corolla sells at $135,988.00 here, which is also almost exactly the price of a new Scion FR-S. Even a Volkswagen Golf costs around $90,000.

Had an hour in it this morning. An entirely different proposition to the outgoing car. It really is something quite special, despite the lime green and racing stripes.

Also saw the new DBS Superleggera which is just awesome.

The DB11 now appears to be the 'classic' GT of the new era and the line up starts to make some sense.

One lucky fellow was collecting a new Vantage in I think Arden Green, with DB11 wheels. It looked genuinely superb. A few years off for me but I am now in the definitely camp.

Ah so they can change out the wheels to give you more options on the new Vantage? This information is what makes this forum so great....
