I don`t hate the new gear knob per se, but when you consider what they have managed in the past it does look a bit like it`s not a push to imagine it`s been lifted from a Honda or Hyundai, and that`s not what you want for 150K. Cynic that I am, I imagine a Carbon, Alloy, Titanium or Moon Dust version in the spec list before too long...
Have seen worse gear knobs occasionally - but the gear knob and the pedals don't fit in with rest of car. 18 year old TT runaround in pouring rain today has much better gear knob and pedals.

Mainly use 3rd & 4th in V8V (rarely 5th and very rarely 6th in UK) - dogleg box good for tracks with hairpins (on dry tracks wink )
Sorry to contradict the naysayers, but has anyone else actually seen the production gear stick & pedals of the customer Vantage AMR's in the flesh or are these comments just coming from a few YouTube videos and the reviews of LHD cars? I saw mine yesterday at the dealer and was really pleased with the gearshift. Admittedly, it's no work of art but it looks good, feels great and has a nice action. Pedal layout and clutch feel are also spot on.

This Vantage is a car that really needs to be appreciated in the flesh rather than on a screen.

Can't wait to take delivery now and offend other AM PHer's with how ugly it is, apparently... rolleyes

Out of interest does anyone know what clutch they've used in the new manual Vantage?

Congrats looks awesome and will no doubt drive the same! Ignore the usual whiners on here. It’s how the car makes YOU feel that matters

Hi ArgieBargy

That looks really good. Best example yet. It will be very interesting to hear your thoughts once you’ve taken delivery and get to drive it. As V8V Pete asked, do you know whether it is fitted with a single or twin plate clutch?

Best Regards

The latest C&D did not particularly think highly of the manual, mostly because of tight gate spacing and clunky throws.

"This is an exceptionally engaging and fun vehicle, and in its mediocrity, the trans calls negative attention to itself. It's a distraction in an otherwise positive experience."

C&D's tag line has been "Save all the manuals". The tag line for this review was: "Okay, maybe we don't want to save all the manuals." Ouch!

I haven’t driven the 7 speed in the latest Vantage but have the same box in my AMR car. Have to say that once you get used to it it is so much better that the previous 6 speed box. It does take some getting used to so, for me, it is not a surprise that a motoring journalist who has very limited time with the car finds problems with it. I now have 5k miles under my belt and love it. It really does add to the driving experience. I guess if you want to look for every downside to the Vantage you can grab this headline or listen to people who have driven this box for quite a few miles. Just saying!

Thank you Beefmeister, RobDown, Wayne95 & Minglar for all the positive comments - much appreciated. clap
It'll have to get PPF'd first of all, so realistically I won't get to drive it for another fortnight or so, but am obviously looking forward to getting it on the road. driving

I must admit not being a fan of the new Vantage but yours looks really good, probably nicest one I've seen.
Congratulations, happy and safe driving!

Thanks Ian, think I read your comments earlier in the thread and they helped to put my mind at rest that the 7-speed manual was exactly the right transmission for what I wanted.

As a long term owner and user, I'll certainly take your view of the transmission over a journo's who has, after all, only had a relatively short time to get up to speed before needing to fire off a headline.

The Vantage now gives drivers' the choice of both transmissions and I think this manual, along with the cars bold (if seemingly polarising styling) gives the car a character that is now in short supply to the segment.

Thanks very much, CSK1 and V12 Way.

The new Vantage was not perfect at launch (those single tailpipes...) but maybe people are now coming to terms with the new design and just a couple of small detail changes that are now available, namely the smoked rear lights and the bonnet vents, make quite a difference to the overall look.

The car has character in spades and personally, I think it also wears a wider range of bold colours much better than before.

Not been a fan of the new Vantage, but love the look of yours.

Can I suggest that when you get it that you start a new thread just about your car. This thread is quite negative, I'm sure lots of people have stopped reading it, and with new car threads people are either very positive or generally don't comment if they dont like it.

It would be good to sse a new car thread specifically on the new Vantage

I agree the small changes make a difference, yours and alscar,s are my two favourites.
