Mercedes Coupes. Anyone else hooked on 'em?
Discussion
Others have come and gone, but it's the big Benzes that I keep coming back to. It wasn't until I found an old photo of a 500 SEC that I realized that there's been one in my garage for 30 years plus now. It started with a ropey, inherited 230CE from the mid '70's, a couple of SEC's and a new CLK 230. They've all had their faults but they were all quickly forgiven. These are some of the highlights:
This 500SEC was used as a daily runabout for and is the one I regret selling the most.
I still have this '65 220SE and she rarely fails. If I need to fill it up, it often takes 20 mins to get off the forecourt, so many chats, so many photos and offers. I think there's a glovebox full of 'first refusals' now.
The latest addition, CL500 AMG, it's almost Star Wars technology compared to the classic and the day the electrics start to play up will make me nervous, but it's a dream to drive.
So what about you guys? Show me your coupes and how you got hooked.

I can see why it attracts so much attention - it is absolutely stunning. I'd like to see more photos of that please.
Happy to oblige. The old girl was partnered with a brand new RR Silver Dawn last summer, a great day with good weather.
It's like sitting on a sofa, those seats are so comfortable. The dash and clocks were in a bit of a state, but I spent a little time fettling it without going overboard on re-veneering, not perfect, but matches the age of the rest of the car.
My old 500 SEC.
I regret selling it, but I've paid a deposit on a 560 SEC replacement, just waiting to scrape the funds together
I've also got a couple of very cheap CLK 230Kompressors, both potential track projects.
Plate sold on this one, so it owes me about £120 but it is rough!
This one has some accident damage, but looks as new under the bonnet, another bargain!
I'm still after a nice 124 Coupe and can only dream of a '60s or 70's coupe.
