What sort of cash would one be looking at by not accepting the car and selling it back?

I love the idea of owning a special Aston Martin, but I think I love the idea of being mortgage free even more...
The amount we can return the winner will be dictated by how much we can sell the car for, hence I'm floating the idea now publicly. The decision on how much we return the winner sits with us. Each of the 9 cars available to purchase was sold at £275,000. Red 10 is extra special as it is Sqn Ldr Mike Ling's car. Mike is the most experience Red Arrows pilot in history and this was his final season after 9 years with the team.

The car is parked in Canary Wharf all week this week and some of the Reds/Circus stood with it all day yesterday selling tickets. I might have to give some of them a job here......

What retail price do you put on a very limited & very special Vanquish. I'am guessing it would be sub Zagato prices. I'll have a stab at it £400K
Tough one to call. Its worth whatever someone is willing to pay. I'd rather sell it to the highest bidder than put a price on it.

Valued at 250k, that's why they need to sell £2.5m worth of tickets.
Simon says owners paid £275K. My guess of £400K is the overs price it could fetch given its rarity. But its all a guess smile

We need to raise £2.5m in order to comply with our licences from the Gambling Commission. This is because the value of the prize cannot be more than 10% of the total funds raised and the car is worth £250,000.

The current closing date is Friday 1 December 2017 and the winning ticket will be drawn on Friday 8 December 2017. These dates are subject to change should we need to extend the timings of the raffle if we have not made our fundraising target. We will make any such changes clear on our website.

Given that Simon said they only just clocked over £1m on the handover day it seems unlikely that they'll reach 2.5 times that amount in the remaining month, so I'd wager that the draw date will be moved to sometime in the new year to give them more time.

I have no problem with that, if it's a case of wait another month or two or get my money back I'll wait!

This only states what value the prize can be i.e 10% of the total funds raised giving a figure of circa £250K. Not sure what the finer detail/restrictions is in selling the car apart from selling it back to Simon in the first 12 months. Like any rare car once on the open market it will likely fetch overs simples.

This information dates back to the original gambling license issued to the charity at the start of the year. The RAFBF have confirmed to me that the raffle draw will take place on Friday 8th December regardless of the total amount raised.

Last week's event gave the raffle a shot in the arm (£54,000 sold the day we released images), so I am hopeful we will get to at least £1.2m by the time ticket sales close on 1st Dec. Hopefully some wealthy bankers will take a punt this week at Canary Wharf!

£1M + is an incredibly result, especially given that the cost of the prize does not come out of those monies

Also, the publicity for the charity that this has generated is priceless

Simon,

Canary Wharf is indeed full of wealthy bankers (careful everyone!). Don't know if you've thought about anywhere in the City of London too. Paternoster Square, in front of the London Stock Exchange, would be within easy reach of some very affluent people too. Just a thought.

Best of luck
Steve

Thanks Steve.

I absolutely love this Facebook live clip from yesterday. Red 1 and Red 8 giving a walk around tour of some of the special features on the car. Legends! https://www.facebook.com/rafbf/videos/101559337126...

Hi Bob,

Should be with us until at least Christmas (the cars belong to the owners so they may ask for them back at any time - but I think they will be here until the weather improves in Spring). You're very welcome to come and have a look with your children. Drop me a line on simon.lane@jardinemotors.co.uk and let me know which day you are coming, I'll try and make sure I'm around to say hello in person. S

Have bought a couple of tickets for this. "AM" quite excited!

Here's what I'd do if I won:

1) Drive car around UK for a bit (holidays permitting and assuming can afford insurance)
2) See if any UK airfield [with link to Red Arrows] wanted to borrow it for some sort of display
3) Take it back in time to drive to Spain for a week or so next summer
4) Entertain offers to buy the car
5) Donate about £20,000 to the charity. Keep the rest.
