Hello me oh wise PH'ers...

Does anybody know what the final production numbers of the DB9 were?

I'm very interested as to the finally tally of such a landmark car.

Reading about DB9 in Andrew Noakes book Aston Martin DB, 70 Years and it say "Production of the DB9 continued until 2016. By the end 16,500 had been built..."

Searched the forum without finding more exact figures.
Manual DB9 production numbers? https://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?t=15...

But using my google-skills yesterday I found one "Last of 9" that had been sold in USA. According to the ad this beautiful car has VIN: SCFFDAEM3GGA17493.

https://www.exclusiveautomotivegroup.com/2016-asto...

Does this mean 17493 to 17502 (as nine "last of 9" coupes were produced and this could be the first) Aston Martin DB9 was produced? Learned from Grants "The Definitive Guide to Gaydon era Aston Martin" that A is DB9 Coupe and B is DB9 Volante. So far so good.

Correct me now if i'm wrong. For this I only looked at ads in the US.

One series of numbers
A = DB9 Coupe
B = DB9 Volante

Another series of numbers
C = Vantage Coupe
D = Vantage Roadster

Another series of numbers
E0 = DBS Coupe
E1 = DBS Volante

Another series of numbers
F = Rapide

Same series of numbers as DB9?
G = Virage Coupe
H = Virage Volante

Another series of numbers
J = Vanquish Coupe
K = Vanquish Coupe

Quick googling ads, an DB9 2012 VIN-number around 14300. One Virage around 13300.

If DB9 and Virage share same series of numbers, are the total production number of DB9 17493 (to 17502) minus production numbers of Virage produced?

Well, no.

https://astonmartins.com/car/db9-last-of-the-9/
"The last nine examples of the DB9, actually called ‘Last of the 9’ were built to identical specification with special touches by Q by Aston Martin. All coupes, and all finished in a real heritage colour of Cumberland Grey..."

The nine DB9 GT Coupes is said to be the last DB9's to leave the factory. That can be true, but did they had the highest DB9 VIN numbers? During my googling about "Last of 9" I also found ads with DB9 GT Volantes said to be "Last of 9".

So I looked at astonmartins.com again.

https://astonmartins.com/car/db9-gt-volante-last-o...
"DB9 GT Volante ‘Last of the 9’ (2017) By the time that the final examples of the DB9 Volante were completed, the model had become the most popular open DB car of all time. For the final series of cars, Aston Martin introduced the 'Last of the 9' series with nine of each of both the coupe and Volante made available to their most loyal customers."

I think astonmartins.com is right and if I'm right they say that the last nine of "The last 9" is coupes.

Then I found this DB9 GT Volante "Last of 9" with VIN SCFFCAFM7HGB17552. Think I give up...

Anyone having more information and facts about the DB9 production numbers? Cars/years? Coupe/Volante? LHD/RHD? Manual/Automatic? Colors? And so on. rolleyes

I think under AP, AML have been more willing to provide historical information to Aston Martin Heritage Trust.

Perhaps they might be willing to help answer your question.
If you are not an AMOC member, maybe seek a member to ask the question.

That's a great website, but the data there is only cars registered in the United Kingdom.

Done some more googling trying to find out the total production numbers of DB9. Think I have come a little bit closer. If the DB9 GT Convertible "Last of 9" above with the VSN (vehicle serial number) 17552 have the highest DB9 number, and the first produced DB9 had number 00001 the math is simple. The problem I have is the Virage. We have to find out if the Virage and DB9 shared the vehicle serial number sequence. Where to find VIN numbers of Aston Martins on the web? Cars for sale in the USA!

I have used my phone searching https://www.autotrader.com/ for DB9 and the Virage. Copied the VIN and pasted it into the phones notes. Took one model year at the time and this is what I found out so far:

1. Total DB9 for sale (there I could see the VIN), 112.

2. Lowest DB9 VSN MY2005, 00752.

3. Found 12 Virage MY2012. Lowest VSN 13399. Highest VSN 14487. (None Virage MY2011 or MY2013.) When the production of the Virage ended the production numbers was said to be just over 1000.

4. Found none, zero, nill, DB9 MY2012 at Autotrader. Was the DB9 MY2012 not sold in the USA, or is it a keeper? No one want to sell its DB9? Think I have to do some more googling. That or become friend with a member of AMOC. smile

Why don’t you just get in touch with Tim Cottingham, Registrar at the Aston Martin Heritage Trust (AMHT) who I am sure will be able to help you. If anyone can it will be him.

My early 2004 DB9 is vin 00249.

I understand your concerns wirh the virage but the virage was supposed to be a different model with the DB9 produced at the same time. So I would imagine the virage would have a different vin completely.

I believe, but i could be wrong the virage was dropped and the DB9 took over its styling because AM wanted to simplify the range.

The Virage VINs are part of the DB9 range. So total DB9s would have to subtract Virage totals from the final DB9 VIN.

Whatever the exact number of DB9's produced, it appears to be much higher than the DB7 which previously was by far the most-produced Aston. So it would seem to bode well for the long term value of the DB7 also.
