V8 Vantage service history?
Discussion
hello,
What is the view on a car that apparently has a full service history stamped in the book but no invoices kept? There are no original MOT's either but a printout from VOSA confirmed the very low mileage (7K) and dates stamped in the book. The interior and engine bay etc look brand new. I'd appreciate any views as I like the car.

I'd prefer to see as much paperwork as possible, but wouldn't be too concerned about just having the service book - you can always speak to the dealer who has stamped it and get them to confirm its genuine. When I bought my car I had the receipt for a service that hadn't been stamped, spoke to the dealership and posted them the single page from the service book and they sorted it out no problem.
My 10 year old V8V came with very little in the way of paperwork and this was an approved 'Timeless' main dealer car.
It had the invoice for the service/prep work they had done, it's new MOT, and 1 previous MOT, but a perfect 10 stamped book, I tried to get the supplying dealer to get me invoice copies as some of the stamps were within the same dealer network but they failed and I did it myself, the nice lady at Stratstone Wilmslow couldn't have been more helpful, even the chap at Stratstone Cardiff was good but it appears Stratstone only keep records back about 8 years.
I'm still missing a few invoices and I know these are available but were done at an AM Specialist and they are currently holding the paperwork for ransom in the way of an 'admin fee' that I can't currently bring myself to pay.
I also checked all the online MOT history and that ties up with the service history and it's only had silly advisories never mind a fail and I was happy everything was kosher.
My previous car had a ringbinder over an inch thick with every single bill for the most trivial of thing pretty much from new and it was hard to accept that someone didn't keep everything, especially with cars like these but I guess the metal is the important bit.

McGurk's only released service history to me after they had proof I now own the car.
Ridiculous misinterpretation of the data protection act—basically many dealer's don't want any trouble so destroy it all now.
Ludicrous, but there we go. Put me off a little, but so many other boxes were ticked, I just went for it.

I had the same quandary when looking to buy. Quite staggered at the lack of paperwork with an awful lot of these cars and also the seemingly blasé attitude of some sellers.
One dealer I went to lost a sale to me as he just shrugged it off and told me he wouldn't be doing anything about it , admittedly the car had other issues which made me walk anyway .

Many dealers will not issue a nice folder of reciepts from previous owners due to Data Protection (credit card info, addresses etc), they just bin it.
Sometimes its worth hanging on to it as the new owner can then contact you to see if you have any additional paperwork.
I have done that before and sometimes it gleans some usefull gen.
