Based on anecdotal evidence on forums, pretty much any aftermarket pads seem to generate less dust than OE Pagid RS4-2-2 smile

Ive got EBC red fitted at the moment, and they appear to be near dust free, certainly combined with Armor All wheel armour, coating on my diamond cut wheels, they never have must dust on them between washes, just road dirt that washes off real easy.
Plus one for red EBC pads on rear

Might be a stupid question but unless you drive the car with the handbrake on (not recommended), or rally it extensively, then how do you wear out the handbrake pads? Why would they need changing other than a main dealer ripping you off?
Pete even when the handbrake is off you will still get a small amount of drag of the pads against the discs.
Yeah but surely we're talking many tens of thousands of miles worth.

Sorry to bring up an old topic but for reference the rear pads are the same as Ford Focus RS fronts.

It has been a few years since this thread saw any action.

Just had a quote of £450+ for new rear brake pads on V8VS from AM main dealer (and a quote of £550 + VAT from a specialist!?!?!), which seems steep to me (even for AM prices).

Any new pearls of wisdom on the non-OEM pads to go for?

I'm assuming any good competent outfit (not even an AM specialist) should be able to fit these? Plenty of highly thought of garages near me that I could go to should be able to do it. A correct assumption?

Thanks for any input!

The job is very easy, you can even do it yourseld if you can lift the car.

As for pads, I have now on the back EBC Yellow Stuff. Good, way less dust than OEM Pagid, but slightly noisy at first. Paid like 140 € for the rear axle.

Try Porterfield R4-S. less wear . noise and dust to OEM pads and better for fast runs and sprints .Can order direct from California U.S.A and should be cheaper even with postage than ordering a set in UK. '' sales@porterfield-brakes.com''

Recently ordered Pagids (I believe these are the same as OE) from Carparts4less for £115 or so delivered.

Paid £45 for a local garage to fit them.

If you put your registration in they will come straight up and you can find discount codes on the site or better ones online (sometimes).

My car is a 2015 Vantage.

Recently bought Porterfield RS-4 pads for the rear on my Vantage, total £183.52, ordered through Porterfield UK...

New caliper bolts from Aston Bits - cheap as chips but you will need them. Also new discs from Autodoc in Germany, great service, discs come with retaining screws although they might need filing down a touch so they don't protrude when fully tightened....

Also worth replacing the guide pins and springs at this price https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Aston-Martin-V8-Vantage...

If you're in brake mode look up my thread on caliper rebuild. You'd be surprised at what condition the pistons get in https://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&...

Hi I was interested in your advice regarding Pagid pads. I too have a post 2012 Vantage with the larger front callipers, common also I think to the Vantage S and Rapide.
I notice when car details are entered on Carparts4less site the front pads product code and picture are actually for the pre 2012 4.7 & 4.3 vantage.
Did you have any problems ?

I have raised a query with the site but have not received a meaningful reply.

Cheers

CarPartsForLess is the same company as Euro Car parts. Depending on the discount codes running when you place your order either will be cheaper than the other. Euro do free postage over £15 and parts usually come within 2-4 days.

Handbrake pads, as questioned above, deteriorate before they wear out. The pad material will start to separate from the steel plate due to rust/heat/wet so they certainly wont last forever and if not removed periodically and cleaned they will probably stick in the housing causing premature wear.

Just to add this was for rear pads. Having looked a pads for the front (although I don’t need them) I too noted the same that there wasn’t an OE alternative listed for the later model cars on the usual sites.

The box for the rear pads stated they were for a DB9 04- onwards so I would say that it is probable that the fronts are shared with another model of Aston and there may be an OE part listed for these.
