Hi, what are the downsides of the twin plate clutch please, I'm intending to go this route when mine eventually needs a new one...

Many thanks,

Chilli..

Whether this is always the case I don't know, but the low speed gear chatter that we are all familiar with, becomes worse.
It can even sometimes be heard at tick over, which never happened with the single plate.
Probably because a standard clutch from experience is generously spring loaded to cushion drivetrain transfer. Not sure why on tickover though but certainly under load at low RPM.

The upgrade is transformational! Every V8V should have been fitted with it!

This is true but when you've driven it at speed you really won't worry about what it does at low speed / idle unless you've made a mistake and should have bought a DB9 biggrin

Yes, this was what I meant. Twin plate is great for most, but some may not like the increase in rattles, clonks, etc which the damped single plate removes. It's down to how you want to use the car. Twin plate is an expensive change so wouldn't want someone who does mostly cruising miles to then be frustrated by the reduced driveline refinement. I would expect the twin plate is ideal for 95% of the drivers on here, but not sure if anyone ever mentions the downsides in case the 5% who expect refinement know about it.

The latest. Firstly I have to give a 'big up' for Richard Ellis at Charles Hurst in Belfast and Lucy at AM. (I'll get her second name) who have turned around what was a sorry state of affairs.
So thank you to them clap
It seems that a new engine is on it's way for my car which is a hell of a lot better than a repair and as a gesture of goodwill a new clutch assembly including flywheel. I was within an inch of refusing to accept the car but Richard and Lucy did as promised and I should have my car back within a couple of weeks bounce
So, rewind, re-set, start again and I shall update with hopefully glowing reports driving
Thanks for interest and support guys, watch this space.

So glad they have looked after you.

This stuff is so important as we often go out on a wing and a prayer for these indulgent cars and that shows a lot of commitment this end! Brand spanker engine and brand spanker clutch in 2 weeks being reciprocated is very decent of them smile

Final diagnosis? An

Excellent result and well done AML. Problems occur, it's inevitable, it's how you sort them out that's important

And there are those who think I only rubbish AML on here wink

Recently managed to tick a must have box before it's too late. Rare tan leather and Prodrive modified from new. Just wrapped silver bits to how I wanted it but easily returned to original . Absolutely love it , very addictive soundtrack.

I went round in circles a bit and it turns out that AMR only make the twin plate conversion for manual cars and not SS with no apparent plans to make one available. BR are fit and supply only, DAE would supply one but for almost as much as fitted. Also, being a main dealer They were not keen on such of which I completely understand (possible warranty issues, conflict of interest etc).
So, they have agreed to fit a complete OE clutch assembly as a gesture of good will of which I'm very pleased with. So, I'll have a Vantage with not only 7k miles but a new engine and clutch also. I must admit I so many times wanted to chuck it in but getting excited again now and I will be writing to Charles Hurst and AML to thank them and the people concerned, it's only right that credit is paid where due. Once it's back and all's well it will be a different letter to the one I had thoughts on when it was going tits up.

Hmm, will do guys but, ,,, I'll reserve judgement on what's promised and what actually materialises. I hope they match and I 'will' know scratchchin At least I know how to run an engine in properly and there is a right/wrong way.
